i keep burning through oxygen sensors and i don't know why. when i replace the sensor it always works fine for like 3 weeks and suddenly i start her up in the morning and the car acts like the ecu is in some kind of safe mode, keeping the rpms at like 1200 in idle. (AND THE GAS MILAGE SUCKS) So anyway why would the car burn through so many sensors? my timing chain needs to be replaced very soon, but i can draw no other corrollation to my problem other than thatHELP HELP PLEASE i cannot afford to replace o2 sensors like that.

a friend of mine had a grand am that went through O2 sensors because "the TPS was messed up" says a mechanic, i had never heard of such a thing, but after replacing the TPS and the O2 sensor, everything was fine. hope this helps

okay cool ill check it out. but if you know at all (i see you're new), would that have something to do with another issue i have? when i come to a stop and pull her out of gear the rpms drop to normal idle and bounce up again to 1500 and drop to normal idle again, even with a new o2 sensor.

yeah the funky idle could have something to do with your TPS, it is afterall, your Throttle Positioning Sensor. I cant tell you for sure though because the crappy grand am didnt have a tach and i couldnt really hear the idle changing. Good luck.

it turned out the tps was changing output from .2 to .3 so its starting to crap out i guess. i just dont see how the tps would make the o2 sensor go bad. Maybe K will tell me sometime...
