Sounds like a tune-up is needed spark plugs, wires, cap. check spark plug gap oil change? when's the last time you guys did a tune-up? if this isn't the issue check and make sure that your guys injectors are good you say it has 124K on it when was the last time an injector had to be replaced? if ever? check this stuff out and keep us updated

Sorry, 3rd gen does not come with cap, rotor, and wires. Furthermore worn plugs should not cause your fuel mileage to drop that much, if they did you would feel the engine missing at idle. If you only went 60 miles on 3/4 a tank, you more likely have a fuel leak or a transmission issue. Is your service engine soon light on? If the light is on it could indicate an issue with your fuel metering causing poor mileage. Plugs are due at 105,000 miles so I would change them, but I would not expect a huge gain in mpg.

I realized the cap and rotor mess up a few days after I posted but It doesn't have wires?? it has wires and a special spark plug housing which have been know to go bad and an engine with 120k + miles on it that has NEVER had the spark plugs changed would do this new car or not I don't care what "experts" say about new plugs that are out if you don't change em around 10k the most it starts messing with you mileage I do mine every 3 oil changes so about 7000k max for my plugs and if I baby the crap out of the car I almost see 500 miles to a tank

The altima has coil-on-plug ignition so there are no wires and no distributor. So instead of having all that AND an external coil like an MSD blaster coil, there is a smaller coil on each spark plug.

The ignition signal is read from the crank angle sensor and interpretted by the ECU that way. It basically takes the failure-prone mechanical parts out of the ignition system and replaces them with an electronic ignition.

It probably doesn't hurt to change the plugs out every 10k miles, but if it ain't broke, its probably okay. I'd say a dirty/poor quality air filter is more of a mileage killer than the plugs.
