3rd gear problem

I drove around all night waiting for my speedo to turn on and when it finnaly did I raced my brother and lost because my third gear cut out at 5600 rpm. 1st and second both had no problems. at 5600 rpms in third i was going about 70 mph. any one know what the hell is going on with my car? it used to never cut out when the speedo was on.
