3rd brake light made my car turn off?

ok so i have a 1990 240 hatch and my car failed inspection a while ago for the third brake light. it hasn't been inspected since October. i know what the problem is, it is the wires going through the the rubber grommet from the hatch to the inside. so being how cold it is outside..i havnt really wanted to work on my car, but today i did..so i reconnected the wires, and about 30 mins later i went to wendys and i was sitting in the drive through and my car was idling really low and it sounded like it was about to stall so then i was revving it a little and then as i was leaving the car would studder at low rpms and it did not sound good at all so i pulled over and turned the car off..stupid of me, now the car wouldn't start again, so i went to the wires and disconnected the ground..now my car didn't start, but i stopped on a hill so i was able to start it up in gear..and it drove the rest of the way home fine. and when i got home i turned it off and it started up fine.. i have no idea if its related somehow, maybe it was like a short? idk..any advice would be great at this point

check alternator if its charging???

well the drive home from wendys was a good 3 miles and when i got home i turned the car off and started it right up..but before i got home and i had to jump my own car it did sound like a dead battery..so i guess ill see in the morning if my car starts lol this is just so weird
