Hey Nissan Mechanics,

I am having trouble getting my 3rd brake light to work on my 1990 240sx Hatch. I replaced the fuses on the driver side cabin, the light bulbs in the tail, and examined the wiring for damage. I looked at the 240sx Service Manual, wiring diagram for rear wiper/washer, sunroof and taillights. I followed the wiring diagram (red/green wire) and noticed there is a "STOP LT SW." The symbol next to it is a "internal fuse/thermal limiter."

My questions are:1) Where do I locate this?2) Do you think it is a cause for the 3rd brake light not to work?3) Any additional suggestions?

Thank you!

PS: Here is the wiring diagram for reference:

It probably goes to the battery for power. Or to the brake peddal.

Ok im not really sure where you got that wiring diagram... Its similar to the fSM i have but not exactly the same.....

So the lower stop lamps do work, but the 3rd one wont work? have you checked for power at the stop lamp in the hatch??? Check that and then we'll narrow it down from there.

all the stop lamps are wired together, as you can see from this diagram, more specifically by a red/green wire (power) and a black wire (ground)...

Just start testing things and go from there......

The stop lamp SW what your talking about is a red/green wire that comes right from the stop lamp switch on the brake pedal right to the stop lamps.. You should be able to test for continuity from that red/green wire and the red/green wires in the back......

Test all the grounds too, by connecting your meter from the black wire to the body ground.....

We're here to help, so go try some stuff and let us know what happens.
