For me, it's akin to someone buying a brand new truck and installing a bed liner to protect the bed. I don't know if anyone's ever removed a bed liner, but if you did you'd see oxidation (water seepage, dew buildup), scuff marks (the liner does move a bit), and dirt. So the bed isn't protected at all, really. Makes more sense to put one on right before you sell/trade the truck, so the bed looks 'new'.
I know a lot of people that have put the clearbra on, but I've never heard of anyone removing it. So it basically becomes a permanent fixture on your car. And it 'could' yellow. It will definitely show dirt around the edges, over time. And it can potentially get scuffed from rocks/birds, like paint. And I don't know if the paint being protected will fade/age any slower/faster than the unprotected paint, so if you remove the clearbra will the paint match?
Bottom line: If you want short-term protection, buy a nose mask and use it for road trips. Just don't leave it on the car permanently. Or, what I've seen on some cars for trips to car shows - you guessed it! - blue 3M painter's tape! Looks silly, but it's effective.
My .02 worth, and my opinion only. YMMV.
Your truck bed example makes no sense. A DROP-IN Liner will have some paint rub - but overall will protect the bed much better than nothing at all. The first time you slide a washing machine etc accross the bed you will know what I mean.
Your option of leaving the bed unprotected and then installing a Drop-In liner right before you sell makes less sense - because all the new buyer will have to do is lift up the liner to see the damaged bed.
The clear bra will likely cause a slight difference in paint color once removed - but it will still be original paint. So yeah you could not protect the front and then repaint it when you resell - but I don't know many people that will want to spend several hundred dollars painting a car to resell it. And the definitely be a difference between the new paint and the 5 year old paint on the rest of the car. Also paint is usually an indication of collision damage in other words a red flag to potential buyers.
Good Luck
