lol! It's crazy....especially when the speed limit is 55 and people do 80+ in spots.

I've driven from the south coast of Lake Superior to Orlando (roughly 1600 miles), every city I drove through on 75 with a posted 55 limit everyone was still doing freeway speeds. I think those 55s are just posted because of state laws because you'll notice that most of those areas have the cement barrier between so cops can't easily patrol the area.

AddictionG35 wrote:Most irrelevant part? The entire purpose of your post was to say that most wrecks happen at low speeds due to inattentiveness, not at high speeds, therefore "some of you need to chill the hell out on ostracizing people for stuff that's not as dangerous as you evaluate." They dude self admittedly did 156. I don't find that, "not as dangerous" in the slightest. Had he wrecked, it would have been a lot more than a fender bender in rush hour stop-n-go traffic cause he was texting.
I see where you're coming from in the sense that 156mph is fast if it's not on a track, and at higher speeds it is harder to control your vehicle therefore endangering other people's lives...however, just playing devil's advocate, I don't think this guy has the intention of endangering other people's lives or not paying attention while attempting this stunt.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that I will bet that this guy really is a good driver and doesn't drive like this all the time. When the camera was on, he felt that showing an exhibition of speed was appropriate. I'm sure there are some out there on similar forums who do things like this on a daily basis but no one knows about since they don't record and share.

He's planning another "spirited drive" and asking if anyone is interested. You don't think this is done on a regular basis huh?

In response to that, I don't think anyone that street races has the actual intention of endangering anyones life. But in fact they are.

I also believe and am confident that when people drive those speeds, they do pay attention because they know just how quickly something can happen...eg..a car changing a lane and going in front of you. So I think that particular comment is irrelavant.

I was curious to know more about Ray (the OP) so I checked out his homepage made public in his profile. There are a few vids here with street racing. So...to me, it seems like a hobby/pastime.
ugaexploder wrote:I guess what I'm trying to say is that I will bet that this guy really is a good driver
Again, this is where I think people make a huge mistake or have this misconception in thinking they are a good driver so it's ok for them to street race. The unforseeable can happen, especially when travelling on a public road. Because of the high rate of speed, your reaction time is cut down by a certain %. You maybe the best driver in the world. But the mini van that failed to check his mirror pulls out in front of you while your doing 146++... no one has super spidey reflexes to avoid hitting them.

Sure, lots of people speed and street race. But, if your going to post it on a Public Forum, you may be looking for the "Great vid" etc.. responses, but you have to be sensible enugh and be able to accept that you will also get negative responses as well.

I'm glad to see we can have a civil discussion and everyone seems to be keeping their cool

.

I've actually had this happen on a few occasions (minus the 146++, more like 80-90). One of those instances lead me drifting across 4 lanes (IN SOCAL!!!), hitting the right median, then drifting back across to the left lane.

I will admit that I had pathetic mismatched tires at the time (Will NEVER happen again), but it really doesn't matter. In the end, it still happened and I do consider myself a capable driver.

ugaexploder:

Let me explode a few things to you, firstly, while the G is unusually a stable car at those speeds, a good driver will know that the tires we have on most of our Gs are not entirely made to sustain those types of speeds (140+) for extended periods of time as the video did show. Even I can feel this in a very small and benign way in my car. So, only for that reason alone, I try never to get to those speeds. In addition, when real sports cars move to those very high speeds, their tires are usually filled with Nitrogen to keep the air pressure stable. The Nissan GTR has Nitrogen in all its tires as a safety for speed demons. I have Nitrogen in my 4 tires. I doubt these guys had Nitrogen in their tires as well.

So, in essence, just about everything required to keep these cars safe, at high speeds, such as stiffer suspensions, higher speed ratings (probably), Nitrogen, and perhaps a roll cage, were totally absent in those cars I saw in the video, thus raising the risk heavily towards a potential accident. And when something happens, there is no amount of driver experience that will save either of those guys at those speeds. If real race car drivers have not learnt how to save their cars from catastrophe, how much more amateurs on a public road?

When I speed, I take a lot of things into account before i step on the throttle. Weaving through traffic is one thing I never do, especially with the blindspot of the G, and on highways where superbikes move through with lightening speeds in the next lane.

Jacko,

I think all of us run Z rated or higher tires. Maybe I'm wrong. I've never seen an H or V rated tire on a G.

Im in for a spirited drive.. But lets set it up so anyone on the southeast can make it, say early november. and well were at it will do this spirited drive at much lover speeds say somewhere between 20-45 mph up in deals gap. like someone stated any car can go fast in the straightways but lets get everyone together and really see who's car can handle the curves.

i would of posted the topic about deals gap/tail of the dragon but cant find it since the forums was redone. so if any admin can plz post it.

The leaves will be better in October there! I've got to hook up with a club and go! The local SVT club goes there each year in the fall.

I've had two beers so I will not comment on street racing or the Superman mentality associated with it.....And, what I think about the topics... OR, how posting such events on a forum like this one may have a negative impact on young impressionable minds...(didn't see the VID...don't think I want to either)

BUT, I will go get another beer before dinner!!!

FWIW Red... nobody got out of line and "freaked" or flamed him hard... it was merely just opinions.. but I think Ray is a little sensitive. Hate to see someone leave because there is a disagreement or because of some peoples opinions.

We've been down this street racing path before...I think this time we (mods and members) kept the flamage down to a minimum. If the OP is butthurt for posting illegal activities on a web forum, then getting scolded by others...that's his problem.

Team Punisher, notice the thread was not locked or moved...but I think the general chat forum would have been a better place to post.

You could end up like nick hogan.

Anyway. I can't lie. When I was 18 or 19 I used to floor my supercharged buick all the time, I95 was my play ground. Of course the limiter would always kick in at 120. And that did save my life before. Ive since slowed down alot. I try to do about 5-7 over the speed limit max. Specially because if I get pulled over again I will probably get my license suspended again.
