That's great! I haven't actually checked our milage lately (the V is my wife's car). I hope to clock it when we take a few long trips this summer.

in 1 trip or average? I've gotten 40.4 in one trip before... (not surrounded by a crappy tank but regular tanks then a 40.4 spike)

So, how are you doing it? Are you hypermiling, coasting in neutral, shutting the engine off down long hills? The best I've ever gotten is 34 mpg on a long trip. Generally get @ 24 in the city, but my commute to work is only 3 miles, so it just doesn't get a chance to warm up. I'm getting the bicycle out this weekend and biking to work next week. The weather is finally turning warmer, so won't freeze my _ _ _ off!

Well, I don't think the CVT would like being jammed from neutral to drive at anything over 20mph... but I'm thinking of seeing if it will...

Keep in mine I have over 36K on the Camel...The CVT LOVES long trips on highway where it can adjust the belt down to less than 3K rpms and keep it there.

Since I upped the psi in my tires, I've noticed wonderful mpg, even in city ... although you've got to be careful with the speedbumps or I slam my rearend on it...

(random: it also aggravates me that I rub while leaving my parking garage unless I go VERY slowly down the ramp... wtf people?!? The Camel's not lowered!! *frustration* /random)

KimberKenobi one question. What psi do you run in you tires?

I agree that slamming the CVT from neutral to drive is a bad idea but I've discovered that if you set the cruise control at your desired speed and come up to a long down hill grade just cancel the cruise and your CVT will coast down the hill. Equaling better MPG's.

The wife and I have an excuse to use the motorcycle on trips more often. We're getting 47-49mpg on mostly 2 lane country roads and freeway that we have around here. We get 30-31 in the Versa and 31-33 in our '08 Altima 4 cyl in the same driving. The bike runs fine on 89 octane.

Sorry, I had to rub it in. Although the bike eats through tires in 9000 miles on average and they cost the same as 4 tires for the car. OTOH, even with a passenger, the bike will give a Corvette or Mustang a good run up to around 110mph.... and use 1/3 the gas doing it.

I started a thread awhile back... I've been running 40 psi for 2 months and consistently get +3 mpg. (was getting 27.7 on average, now get ~31-33)

I'll run my receipts next week and get some more "offically-type" numbers up here...

I'm just very slow in accelerating, I try to keep it shifting at 2300 RPM in all gears. It helps that I live in Florida and it's very flat.

Oh, I know I'll regret saying this, but this is what's worked for me for 60k miles. Even with cruise off but in drive, there's engine braking and the engine is running at higher rpm's while you're going downhill. However (deep breath), mine runs about 750rpm in neutral for several minutes every morning while I'm coasting at 70-75mph down a large hill on my commute. A little bit up the other side, when I've slowed back down to 70 I put it back in drive with no complaints from the CVT. (No "slamming"!) Just give it a little gas to get it to about 2300 rpm and it's quite happy.

Sure, I was a little nervous the first time, but even in the manual it says the CVT can be put into neutral at highway speed if you need to restart the engine, and they don't say to stop to put it back in drive, so I figured it was worth a shot. So shifting from neutral to drive at speed works fine for me...

I usually get about 27-30 mpg city mainly driving to school and work. Sometimes I get 31 maybe 32 mpg driving on the freeway. Gotta stop with the heavy pedals..
