Think twice if you plan on doing track events with your new stock 370Z.Nissan is suppose to be doing research development testing for external oil coolers to solve this over heating problem...check it out here...

I read something similar a while ago but I can't seem to find the link.

I'll do some searching if I get a chance and post it up.

This is why I say never buy a first year model. This problem probably won't be worked out until the later 2010 models.I'm sure we'll hear other problems too. Atleast this one seems fixable by the owners in 'just' buying a larger oil cooler

Yep...to this day I feel sorry for all the guys who jump to get the first 350Z...some paying up to 5k over msrp, guys flying all over the country so they can have the first Z in their neighborhood. Now with all that money spent up front...they got tire feathering issues, suspension problems, transmission problems, Nav system, fuel door & a list of 50 more TSB's to add to the aggravation...it's not worth it....just a big pain in the ***!

Sounds like BMW problem with the 335's. Hope Nissan will handle it better than BMW did. They installed new coolers in only some of the 335i.

Why would anybody track their car with 200 miles on it?

Did it occur to him that the lack of piston ring seating might have something to do with the overheating? I don't doubt that Nissan has an issue that they need to fix, but on the flip side, tracking an unbroken in car is kind of...irresponsible.

On the flip side, I want to go to a track day!!!

Naw mezz it wasnt you I believe I would have emailed you directly on that one.

People should let cars come out and see what happens no one really cares that you bought the first one at that dealership, you will also be the first one bringing it in for a recall too.

Cars need 1000 miles "break in period"

you cant send the car to the track after 250 miles and expect there not to be a problem

nissan is genuine

Na, 200 miles break in. Just the piston and ring seal that does the trick. Everything else doesn't need to break in.

You ever see how they test the motor when they build them? Full rev range. High rpms. If your engine is so delicate, why do they do it in the manufacturing floor?

Break in period is a liability thing that car manufactures don't want to have, that's why they ask you to be slow, since this is your first time with the car different driving characteristics. And not everyone is a professional driver.

Drive your car like you are going to drive it, and with caution learning the new vehicle.

BUT. Change your oil, after 200 miles, then 1000, then 3000 miles.

Must people I know don't even do this, they don't even look at the maintenance schedule.

You ask a lot of Japanese engine tuners how to break in a engine, they laugh at your face. Because most motors they build gets right on the dyno full boost. And most I have met have reliable build records.

It comes down to personal preference. But I will say this.. every time you look at your oil changes and how brown it is. It's blow-by gas, and that is because you follow your owner's manual based on it's manufactures best interest. Not yours.

And, boy, do I love the color of my oil when it comes out.

I heard about this problem as well, however it's already been addressed on the edmunds test they ran at the track. In that review of the 370 they bring up how the oil coolers aren't working very well for track runs. Supposedly theres an upgraded oil cooler that can be purchased with the car. Could also swap it out for an aftermarket one as well. Regardless I'm sure it'll be fixed by 2010 in time for me to buy one. This problem seems rather minor when you compare it to the problems their having with GTR trannys. Nissan trying to shaft owners and all...
