For the past month or two my 360 has had a LOT of trouble reading discs. It starts up just fine but when I put in a disc it just makes a lot of "reading" noises and then acts like there is no disc in the tray. Occasionally it'll freeze on me too. I just figured it was a problem with the games and DVDs I was getting through GameFly/Netflix, but this is starting to get ridiculous. I just got GoW2 in and the game looks damn near perfect, but the 360 still won't read it.

So I wouldn't have a problem really with sending it in to M$, but I don't know if they would even cover it since I bought it from eBay about two years ago and don't have an actual store receipt. Anyone have any advice for me?

Update. ***** just RROD'd me. I think I'm going to go down to Best Buy right now and get myself an Elite, then sell the refurbished/replaced 360 that I may or may not get back. I just need to transfer all the games from the HDD, which I do not know how to do.

if you have a large hd you can install your games to the hd so the disk only reads for one second before you play, i found the games load quicker and the system is quieter

Sounds like the drive just failed on you. Call up MS and they should cover it if its under 3 years old. 1-800-4MY-XBOX.

Dead drive doesn't cause RROD or any error messages at all aside from disc read errors (I know because that's what killed my first box).

Really doesn't matter now, the box was consistently giving me the three rings. I got my Elite hooked up now and everything is fine. Monday I'll call up 4MYXBOX and get the ball rolling on on a refurbish/replace plan, and once that's done with I'll get a transfer kit from MS, migrate all my save data to the 120 gig drive and sell the old premium system. Looks like I got a xmas gift this year after all, I just had to buy it myself.

Anyone up for some Gears of War 2?

Make sure your 360 isn't under warranty though, this will cancel it. This warranty for this 360 expired last year, so this saved me a $100.

Unfortunately. I'm just going to include them with the other 360 when I sell it.

Edit: Just tried to request a repair for the 360 and they're telling me the 360 is more than three years old, so no warranty for me
