My GTiR T28 is being rebuilt and I'm wondering whether or not to spend the additional $70 on a 360* thrust bearing. I've searched for more info and was only able to find that it was recommended to a lot of people who were going to be boosting fairly high, enough for 350-400WHP. For the time being, though, I'll only be running stock boost (*maybe* 250 at the wheels, probably not even), and once I get fuel upgrades and a tune, 14-15psi max. The GTiR turbo is supposedly only good to ~320 at the wheels anyway, at the very most.

Is it necessary? Is a standard 270* bearing going to see the turbo going out in another year or something?

Thanks. =D

I assume you mean the thrust washer on the turbo. The thrust bearing is part of the crankshaft bearing assembly.

A 360 is nice, but you don't need it. 270 degree thrust washers have held that much power and more for a long time. Unless you just get a great deal on it, or feel that you can't live without a 360 washer, you should be alright staying with the regular 270 washer

Thanks a lot, I haven't been able to get a response anywhere on this until now.

Don't get me wrong. In a perfect world, I would wish for everything to be a 360 washer. It's better for a reason, but the 270 is functional and gets the job done. And it will hold up to some good punishment If Nissan didn't have a 360 installed on the GTi-R T-28, then you shoudl be ok with sticking with the 270. I've seen GTi-R turbos put down some good strong power without having been rebuilt.
