So ive really been trying to figure out what i want to do with my 240. As of right now its a stock kade with full suspension. I have been checking out the LSX swaps and the Lm7/4 swaps, also the ford 302 swaps. I see benefits in all But recently i got to thinking after doing some research on my mustang motor i have currently. From what i found the 351w that i have (1969 motor) puts down in stock form 300hp and 380tq. I was like :naughty: that would be all i need. I have been wanting a big block for my mustang anyways and a big block 429 or 460 is loads cheaper than any of the chevy motors i can get. Also my 351w is not stock. From what i have been able to find is that the 351w is really only about 1-2in taller than the 302 which people swap into the s chassi alot. Also its not really any heavier than say and lm7 out of a silverado. and only like 50-60lbs heavier than an ls1 but puts down more power, or at least more tq which is what i really love. I have been trying to find more info on putting this motor into an s13 and cant seem to find any anywhere. What do you all think about this idea i have. Motor would be free. i can weld and fab my only concern right now is the driver side header due to the steering rack. as well as the oil pan and can i keep the sway bar. This is mainly a drift car with occasional street use and would love to keep a/c and my sway bar. Any suggestions or thoughts on this?

If you can weld and fab you should be well on your way for doing this. Exhaust clearance shouldn't be too much of an issues especially if you end up with a set of block huger headers. The only thing I would be worried about with the swap would be emissions if you live somewhere that it actually makes a difference.

Well where i live they dont have emissions so that wound be a problem.. so you think with some block hugger headers that itll drop right in such as an lsx or302?

Here's a thread where a guy put a 4.6 mod engine in. If he can fit that, I think you should be fine.

its not too terrible hard to cut and change headers, if you know how to weld. the 351w would not be my first choice, but it sounds like for you thats what you want to do, and it certainly is your car! i say go for it. it would be unique. what transmission do you plan to use?

its deff not my first choice but its something i have readily accessible.. i hve not decided what i want to do that is why im asking what it would take.. i like the idea of having that motor in there but i may not.. why do you say it wouldnt be a good motor? and what would you suggest and why? and if i did use that motor i would probably do my best to get a t56 or a tko5or 600.. dunno on everything yet.. right now its just homework..

i didnt say its a bad motor. i built a 351 with a friend of mine and we put it in his old truck. its a pretty good motor, i dont think there is anything wrong with them. im more of a small block chevy fan though. but you are doing the right thing by doing your homework.

i would totally agree with you in some aspects.. i believe that currnet motors chevy dusts ford all day long.. back in the muscle car era i would take a ford motor all day long.. i love the fact about chevy motors that everything is interchangeable so it gives you endless options on how to build a motor.. but a 351w from back in the day i think is one of the best motors of the time.. strong, sturdy, reliable, and puts out very good power.. like i said im still very much undecided of what i want to do.. i really would love a v-8 just simply because i miss driving a car with a good strong v-8.. but this car is mainly a drift car and i also am trying to find the cheapest route to get the best thing i can for what i want and need.. so its lots of homework and this will probably not happen for at least a year unless something just comes up that is great or i found out all the info i need in the next month or so.. so im excited just to be doing the homework to get the best thing possible and learn about it and then build it.. :naughty:
