Why have a vert? Just take a coupe and open the sunroof and windows. Same effect and it doesn't look so stupid.

geez... what a waste of a hot car.

The engine on the other hand... very nice. they'll have to custom make a hood with bit bulge in the center like an old muscle car.

I bet that car moves!!!!
are you serious? you cant tell me that you would drive sideways at close to 100 mph in a 'vert with no cage. safety is a little more important than the convertable "experience".

I think he means the covertible 350 looks bad enough, and with that cage in there its off the fugly charts . Why not just put a cage in a hardtop Z?

Yea yea, they want to be unique and thats cool. The 5.6 swap is unbeatable, but they could have at least curved the bars to match the round body lines, and maybe through in some downbars in the rear for flow (visual flow not aero). The whole boxy jeep rubicon ready luggage rack just doesnt fit.

Cool project though.

exactly right

I think it's retarded to put a full cage in a 'vert. What's the point in having a 'vert then??? Might as well get a hardtop with a moonroof. The whole idea of a convertible is the experience of open air... top down, wind in your hair, etc... I think it's silly to put a big (UGLY) metal frame around you.

I'm not saying that car isn't nice looking though. I can really appreciate the swap and all the work that went into it.

I do like the idea of rollbars behind the driver like Porsche and BMW do. That would be cool... at leasts it's out of sight and looks nice on the car.

yeah, the rollcage is ghey until you flip the car, than every one of you would flop like a pancake.

You're looking at a purpose build car to be safe at extreme speeds, near the limits of chaos and also garner attention thorugh the ppeal of uniquness.

It should be avaulated as such. In those respects, the car does it's job very well. ALso, ANY race organization requires similar caging, and itdoes more than proivde roll protection.

ALso, for those of you saying "just use a hardtop"....hard tops don't necessarilly have the structural strength to flip on top of itself without jeapordizing the driver either (without a cage)....

Does anyone read?

Yes, that roll cage looks horrible. Are you going to tell me thats the most attractive they could have built the cage? A square box sticking out of a rounded car.... Of course its there for safety, nowhere in my reply do I say anything about getting rid of the cage...I do make mention of using a hardtop...with a cage, as in my opinion it would look better ( yes I know, not as unique...).

Bottom line, in my opinion they could have built a much better looking cage. It is a 350Z with round lines, not CJ 5 jeep. The cage doesn't flow. Why be safe and ugly when you can be safe and look good?

Heres more along the lines of what im thinking of:[IMG][/IMG][IMG][/IMG]

Look at that, then scroll up to the original and tell me it doesn't look better.

It doesn't look better. I like the original. And don't open your mouth to try and argue with me, it's my opinion and nothing in the world can change it.

So I'm some dumb redneck American for wanting to do a VQ swap into my SE-R?

And, for the record, the VQ swap only adds 50lbs to the front of the car in the SE-R.

I think it's just shooting for cool factor, isn't nissan supposed to offer a 4.5 v8 in the next gen Z car? of course in stock trim the titan has the same hp as the 350Z, but where theres added displacement there is room for more power, although with the 4.2 stroker for the 3.5 it's just a cheaper option I suppose

as for 50lb weight gain in the front of a sentra thats a lot, but unless your trying to be competitive at autocross or road racing by all meansgo for it, and moving the battery to the real might help ballance things a bit

nothing wrong with engine swaps, I'd put an RB26DETT in my 240Z if i could get one as cheap as the L28ET, I'm a fan of cheap horsepower, no point paying more for the same power

The 50lbs is relatively easy to offset with suspension modifications. Not to mention I would be more concerned with the weight of PEOPLE in the car than I would an additional 50lbs in the front. About 10 lbs could be offset with a painted CF hood. Another 20+ lbs could be offset with lighter than stock wheels. Relocating the battery would shave 10lbs off of the front. In a 2,600lb vehicle, 50lbs isn't much. Suspension tricks can be used to make up for alot of the weight differential.

1. I think they are just trying something different, rather than 'just giving up' on the VQ.

2. Handling? Yeah, you're right. They don't give a good hot poop about handling. I mean, why would handling be a concern in a drift car of all things?

when your racing 50 lbs is a lot, and you don't have passangers, for a street beater I'm sure it's of no real consiquence. also if you were racing you'd already be rolling on 9lb SSR's

If weight were an issue, with regards to racing, you would also run a gutted interior, gutted trunk, removed air conditioning system, et al.... But all we're doing here is digressing into absurdity.

I would be willing to bet that I could STILL do any sort of event racing with that 50lbs and have a VERY minimal impact. Especially with regards to power-to-weight ratio. Especially when you consider that the car that a 3.5l motor comes out of is SIGNIFICANTLY heavier than a Sentra. That 50lbs extra on the front will have a MINIMAL handling impact. Especially with a stiffer suspension, anti-roll bars, and a front 4-point tie bar (which should be arriving today incidentally), and a rear tie bar.

Sorry to bring back an old thread but....

anyone have any idea on what transmission is being used in that car? I thought that titans and armadas only came with an Auto.

Any info would be good, thanks.
