Hi everyone...new to this board but not new to Nissans. I'm driving an 06 Civic Si presently but have owned a '92 Sentra SE-R (to this day, one of the most fun cars that I've owned) and a '97 Maxima SE.

I've been considering either a used 350z or G35. I looked at three used G35's today, but didn't drive any of them...all of them had too high of mileage and I didn't want to really talk to car salesmen today.

I'm just wondering if someone could give me a brief comparison between the two cars. I'm sure the G35 is more refined than the Z. It's really a toss up for me, but I'm really leaning toward a G35.

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

Both are fun cars.I think it comes down to how much stuff you want to carry. The G35 will have more 'stuff' room. Plus, you can cram a couple of kids in the back seat if you have too. Plus, you really need to go drive both. They are different. You shoudl be able to get a 350Z several K less.Good Luck!

The no-backseat thing made my decision easy! If I wanted a 2-seater, I'd buy a vette.

350Z feels more like a sports car, but it's interior looks cheap and it does not have a lot of room. It's a great car for weekends only, while G35 can be a daily driver and a weekend fun car.

G35 all the way baby!

The 350Z is more 'sports car,' the G35 is more 'Grand Touring.' Both are wonderful rides.

I take long road trips and the G is perfect. The longer wheelbase gives a better ride and there is plenty of luggage space with rear seat folded down.

I'm 6' 5" tall and the Z is a non-starter. The G without the sunroof gives me a perfect driving position.

It is summed up pretty well above. I think the 350 is for weekend warriors and the G is for real life. For everyday use. The comfort zone the practical usage(like back seat),room just not the same. However if you willing to give up all this then you save couple of $K and you will have a well ballanced sport car. After all it is back to you what your need is.

I own a 2007 G35 Coupe, which I LOVE.However, my heart still yearns for a 350Z as well. When I bought my G, the deciding factor was the fact that the G has back seats. And that was mandated by the wife. Otherwise I might still be sitting and trying to decide as to which to buy. It's like deciding, if you were so very lucky, who to sleep with. Charlize Theron or Kate Beckensale. It's a win-win situation, but no matter which choice you make, you will always wonder "hmmmm I wonder what it would be like had I made the other choice..."

That being said, I'm incredibly happy with my G, and who knows, one day when it's paid off I might just be able to pick up the latest Z....

Yeah the backseat was a necessity for me and made my decision pretty easy. I'm also a bigger fan of the back of the G35 coupe than the Z.

Let see. I try everything before I buy. So I'd try both. At the same time please.

Hi, i just got a g35 today, its an 06 with 11k miles, paid 29k for it, dont think it was a bad price. I do have a question also though, i was pushing the modes on the radio and i see sat 1, sat 2, does this mean it has sat alrady or is it prewired?

It should mean that the head unit is capable of receiving sat channels -- from one of the two services. Which one would be the next question.

SAT1 should be your presets for either XM or Sirius, and SAT2 is another set of presets (like FM1/FM2).

However, it doesn't mean you have the antenna installed...but you do have the capability to receive satellite radio.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Yes...the absence of a backseat in the Z is not good. Although my wife drives a new Hyundai Santa Fe, there are still occasions when I have to tote one or both (rarely both) of our little ones somewhere.

I think my mind is now made up. Does anyone have any opinion on the best year for the G? Edmunds suggests at least '05 because of the HP increase. I'll likely go with the 6MT.

Thanks again for takng the time to reply!

Yes, your best bet to get 05+ not just due to the extra hp but there was couple of minor issues with 03-04. All the bugs worked out with the 05.

But the best to buy the newest possible model with the lesser miles you can afford.

I

If you're thinking about a 350z, then just get the S2k. It's a lot more fun to drive, it's "rev happy", doesn't burn oil and VTEC baby.

The S2k has more spunk hands down.

But to answer your question, it depends on what really want from a car.

If you are not going to track your car, get the G35.

IMO you might even want to check out the sedan. mine is pretty quick now that I've done some mods. I also recommend checking it out since you said you have kids. I have 2 and the sedan was the way to go for me. I also read someone else's post in a forum who was talking about not being able to put in a child's seat in the rear of the coupe. I don't know about that personally though. The back seat doesn't come down either, just to give you a heads up. Only the center part will come down but it helps with the rigidity of the car. Good luck.

IMO, driving dynamics and oil consumption aside, the 350 is so much prettier than the S(lab)2000, that I would gladly accept the term of "poseur" and buy it based on looks alone.

It's truly a matter of preference. When I had purchased a G, it was a hard decisions as a 350Z was in my crosshairs first. When it came down to it, i was able to get the G35 with leather, Navi, and the Brembos in a single package. It wasn't until 06 when they introduced the Grand Touring package that you could get all this in the Z. had they offered this package in 04, I would have had a Z. I actually sold the G35 with plans to get the Grand Touring model Z and somehow convinced myself to get a Titan.
