Hey I'm wanting to know, why more people aren't doing these swaps??

Is this just an unpopular thing, or is it that people are terrified by the amount of fabrication involved in the conversion??

I shouldn't be that hard if you have a MT Z car...

There are adapter plates on ebay for sub: $500

http://www.ebay.com/itm/VK56-VK56DE-ADA ... 9a&vxp=mtr

mounts require a mig welder: $400

http://www.google.com/products/catalog? ... CHoQ8wIwAg

Misc steel for fab'ing: $200
Drive shaft at: $400
Flywheel adapter $400
Stock Z Clutch $free
Headers (supposedly..) $300

Misc parts, and random necessities $100-$3000

So the total without the Misc parts comes to $2200

That is less than a tax return for most Z-owners.. which isn't bad for a V8 350Z car this of course DOESN'T include the cost of obtaining a motor, or exhaust but all-in-all that still isn't bad for a swap.. 380 worth of V8 torque. which is a decent platform to start something awesome, and an Awesome sound at that!!

So why aren't more people doing this??

It is a better option...ur car will be unique and will hold value if done right ...
In many places that would not be a road legal car unless declared and paid more insurance for...
people risk it with civics cuz the car is not worth much...
but the main reason is...cuz

Mechanically inclined creative people "usually" go in a field that goes with their skills... many being mechanics, some technician, some trained technicians and a few engineers in mechanical/manufacturing...they dont earn tooo much
"Most" of the time the people who make enough to buy a 2 seater as a second car are not mech.inclined...
very few are and they lead many of the aftermarket developments..
As the value of the car goes up...the mechanical intuition of the owner usually goes down and hands on skills definitely go down...

Im summary...they dont kno chit... it could always be worse, can be observed from M3 or S4 forums...

how much do you think it should cost for the whole swap over a year or 2??
basically buying parts whenever you find them at good prices (used)...

I think I might have listed this all before, but this would be a close estimate.

I was looking for more details on the miscellaneous parts and engine cost

On ebay, VK56 are going for near $2000...

It might be possible to fit a 300zx transmission to the engine...
the ECU will be required...

I think it will cost that at the minimum if ur miscellaneous includes the ECU, compatible transmission, custom exhaust, maybe custom oil pan and the sensors to go with it..

before I got the 350z...I wanted to buy a 1991 BMW 850ci and swap a 1UZ-fe into it...
low on gas, cheap to maintain, possible to modify....it would be a car I could drive 250,000kms...opposed to a V12 850ci that barely gets driven 10-15000km/year

how much did it cost you to swap the 1UZ-fe in?? how did you connect the tachometer and the rest of the sensors from Nissan to Toyota?? which transmission, driveshaft and rear diff did you use??

Oh that was easy, after I figured out the adapter plate stuff, everything else was just peanuts. the wiring was a joke with the 1UZ. you can connect 6 wires and the engine will start. the motor mounts were pretty easy. the transmission was off of an SR20DET 4cylinder engine, the tachometer was just connected with a tach adapter box from MSD, and the majority of the sensors that toyota uses went directly to the ECU, but Toyota has three coolant temperature sensors in the engine for different reasons, but for the instrument cluster I just used the one from the nissan on the coolant boss on the toyota engine, and everything worked..

Super easy.

Rear differential was stock, and the drive shaft was a custom one-piece.
