Okay, here's the deal. On impulse yesterday, I went and bought a new sub for my car. I thought that it would be a pretty simple install, since there is already a bracket for the sub behind the driver's side seat. I was wrong. Once I started looking at it, I couldn't figure out the best way to get into the sound bar for the wiring, or the best place to go through the firewall, etc. I have searched not only this forum but others too and can't find a good, clear how-to anywhere. Any advice that anyone can give me would be very much appreciated. I am sure that there are many of you who have done this before and know what you're doing better than I do. Thanks in advance.

You are planning on putting an amp in, right? Is that what you were saying you needed to drill through the firewall for? Other than that I can't understand what you're saying. All you need to do is buy the amp and sub, stick the sub in the subwoofer box, Install the amp, run the red and white cables and the blue remote wire to the head unit, hook the sub up to the amp, and connect the amp to the power supply(battery). And that's installing an amp and subwoofer for all the morons out here. Not calling you a moron though man.

Sorry I wasn't more clear. Yes, I was talking about the amp when I when I was talking about going through the firewall. Instead of drilling, I know some cars have a grommet that you can feed the wire through around the steering column. I know how to do everything, I was just wondering about the best way to go about it. Another question I have is where is the best place to mount the amp? I was thinking aobut under or behind the passenger side seat (I don't want to sacrifice any cargo space, really). Any other ideas? By the way, no offense taken...a**hole. (Just kidding.)

I can tell you how to do it, but that isn't the same as doing it. if you feel overwelmed take it to a professional pay him to do it.

As far as putting a Sub in the location behind the seat in a 350 Z, good luck! This was designed for a factory Rockford Fosgate system that had an enclosure behind the sheet metal. If your Z doesn't have the Rockford option, then the enclosure isn't there, just the opening. You'll have to build one to make it sound o.k. (build with suggested materials of MDF, Fiberglass, Polyester Resin, Polyfill, and Dynamat. These can get pretty expsensive before you start to build) IMO it never sounds that great doing this. you'd be better off in a separate enclosure, but I understand the limitations on space in that vehicle. Trying to get wires through the firewall is always a task. Doing it frequently in many different vehicles is the only thing that makes it easier.

The Z may require that youd disassemble son componets in the engine bay before you can even see or reach the wiring harness that go through the firewall. Then there might not be enough room for an extra 8gauge wire in that harness. So some people like to drill a separate hole just for the amplifier main power supply, Use a grommet in the hole before you insert the wire. Many installer have damaged vehicles by drilling in a poor location or not properly verifing

If you have doubts, ask, try, maybe search some more, or eventually give up and have a professional do it. Schedules around the holidays are very busy, so plan weeks ahead of time for having car stereo stuff installed. Most of all have fun, if it is too frustrating then something isn't right.

I appreciate the advice. A few days ago, I decided to just say screw it and dive in head first. I'm happy to say that I did it, and the sub sounds great. Thanks.
