So I have both doors off my car and im trying to splice in new speakers, both tweeters and woofers, and I realize I have no idea which colors are positive and negative. I looked all through the forum trying to find answers, but I could only find 300z diagrams. I tested the polarity on the stock speaker with a battery and deduced that red was positive and blue negative, but that trick doesn't work on the tweeter, which has black/white wires. Haven't even gotten to the rear speakers, but I'm replacing the amp with the sub so that's not a problem. anyone have any ideas on how to figure this out? Bose has no support for the tweeter model number. BTW this is the touring roadster, 2005 350z with bose sound. Which I hate.

The closest match I could find for you is the 350Z/COUPE/2005/FSM/AUDIO VISUAL, NAVIGATION & TELEPHONE SYSTEM

It won't be in there, it's a Bose issue with their stupid proprietary connectors. Thing is, the headunit says Bose, but it's actually a Clarion. Ugh...

Most people on here that are upgrading their stereo haven't had the Bose setup. I've got it but I'm fine with mine as is. I'll see if I can find someone that's messed around with the big, bad Bose and let you know. In the meantime you might try checking with a local place that has probably dealt with this before. You might even wander through the Crutchfield website and see what you can find about connecting "normal" items from a Bose setup.

I think a voltage tester would help. You know, turn the radio on and test each wire to see which one is hot. Just use a common ground, not the speaker or other wire.

The good news is if there are only two wires, it will work either way. You cannot damage anything. I suppose there is a slight change the negative with would be grounded to the chassis, which could be checked by an ohmmeter.

An audiophile might be able to tell you if having the wires reversed would create a problem with "phase".

I am very interested in what you are doing. Please keep this thread updated. I am a retired electrical engineer. My kids are finally grown - so no more 4 door cars for me. I just bought a 2007 350Z. BK (Before Kids) I had a flared out '71 240Z that had been a Can-Am race car, and an RX-7.

My rear speakers appear to be blown. Are you just upgrading speakers and now have extra functional ones?

Did your car come with a sub? If not, do you know how to add one?
