Well I can't prove it, but its pretty obvious. What do you guys think?I'm in the market for a 350z, searched all the online used car links, got book value for different packages, years, mileage...etc. You know the normal research.

During my reasearch I come accrossed one of these "too good to be true" deals where this guy is selling a low miles 2004 Z, clean title, the VIN checks out, and everything seems good. (pictures link)http://new.photos.yahoo.com/al...page1

Miles: 32415 Doors: 2 doors or moreTransmission: Manual Interior: GrayEngine: 6 - Cyl. Year: 2004Warranty: Existing VIN Number: JN1AZ34D34T160213Title: Clear Exterior: Blue(I checked that VIN and found it sold last month with the reported miles at 22k, so either someone is lying or they put 10k miles on the car in the past month)

So I try to call the number; disconnected, so I send an email and he responds:

From: "David" <[email protected]>> > >To: <[email protected]>> > >Subject: 350Z for sale> > >Date: Tue, 19 Sep 2006 23:22:16 -0700> > >> > >I was wondering if the car was still for sale.> > >> > >If it is; does it have anything wrong with it?> > >> > >> > >> > >Please contact me if you are still selling it.> > >> > >Thank you,> > >> > >Dave----------------------------He replies -------------------------------------------Hi,> >> >First of all I need to tell you that I have moved at my parents in> >Hamilton,ND after I have lost my job, and the car is locked in a garage in Nixa,Missouri, at my old address.> >I am selling the car only because I have recently lost my job, and I >don't> >have any savings, the bills and the loans I have to pay are too high. I >was> >forced to move at my parents as I was not able to pay my rent, and right> >now> >> >I need to sell the car as I can't afford it. Anyway before I do that I will need the payment to be made, as >I>>don't want to make the trip in vain. If you think you could do that we can>make this deal work. Do you have all the money ready for the car?>>I know that 9,200 is a large amount this is why for our safety I want to>make this deal through an escrow company, SquareTrade, and they will act>like a third party. I will register the transaction with them and I will >pay>>for the transaction fees, as it is my request.>>Here's how they work: I will register the transaction with SquareTrade and >I>>will provide all the details to them. They will send you a confirmation >with>>the buyer protection program and infos on how to make the payment. The>payment will be made to them and they will hold the money untill you'll>confirm that you have the car and it is as described, and then they will>release the funds to me, otherwise, if the car is not as you expected, all>you have to do is to ask for a refund, and they will give all your money>back.>If you decide to make this deal I will need your full name and home address>in order to start the transaction.>>Let me know what you think about it. I'll wait for your email.>Sincerely,>Alvin---------------------------Then I reply-----------------

Hi Alvin, Please call me (909)379-XXXX or give me a phone number where you can be reached and I will gladly accept the charges of that call. Call me old fashioned but especially when dealing with something of this scale, I would feel much better talking to you directly instead of emailing.

I have a loan from the bank for the amount of the car but the bank needs a copy of the registration to complete the loan process.

-Dave

-------------------------Then he replies------------------I don't have a fax, i'll scan the title and try to send it to you via email tomorrow. Ok?!-------------------------------------------------------

Now Ive waited all weekend and my bank has recieved nothing as of this morning. No phone calls, no more emails, nothing.

This stinks of scam, I was just wondering what you guys think. And I just found out that the ad has been removed from the KBB.com used car listings.

Yeah, the part that gets me is the whole 3rd party escrow thing. Anyone who seperates themselves from that much money without even seing the car is just asking for trouble, even if the escrow account is legit.

I agree with the rest....somethings not right. Did they ever mention western union??? Thats a red flag because its impossible to get your money back once wired. Another flag is if they're all-of-a-sudden in Europe...

Good luck with your search!

These scams float around on craigslist all the time. It's the same template, the scammer just changes the model of the car. The rest is word for word of another ad for another car.

yup, if something sounds too good to be true it likely is, seems to be a lot of fraud listings on ebay lately, I've reported 5 or 6 in the last month or 2
