I am looking to buy a 350Z. I am finding a lot of them with salvage titles. I've looked at several of them and they seem ffile. Amy ideias why all the salvage titles?

People driving beyond their capabilities, either too young and not experienced in handling a car at all or someone that not used to driving a rear wheel drive car - or both.

There could be no issue at all or it could be a nightmare waiting to happen. Thing is you never know but one thing that a salvaged title does tell you is that at one time the car DID have an ISSUE....and it was something MAJOR enough to salvage the car.

Personally I wouldn't buy a salvaged car...again. I've learned from experience that you don't buy salvaged and you don't buy someone else's project car. Both of those can put you in a situation where you come out losing.

My advise, buy stock or if modified, with minor bolt on mods only. There are several cars available out there and you should be able to find one in your price range that has everything you'd like.....

Also if you are looking to buy make sure you read up on the differences between models, options, and issues. 06+the exterior and interior change, 07+ the motor is more powerful.....06 had an oil issue....there are several things you should know before making your purchase.

Good luck and welcome to NICO!

I would never buy a vehicle with a salvage title, but if you do, don't put a lot of money into it fixing it up. You might have trouble selling it and have a lot of money tied up in something that you can't get it back out of.

Dissenting opinion...

There are a few times when I would consider buying a salvage titled car:

1) If I'm going to gut it, cage it and race it.
2) If it was was in a collision and it's got a bent frame or similar damage but I just want it for the engine, transmission or other miscellaneous parts.
3) If the car was totaled out because of something that doesn't impact how the vehicle functions - I've seen this with hail damage. I've seen a body guy buy a couple of hail damaged cars, repair them and turn a great profit.

And I would always, Always, ALWAYS steer clear of a flood damaged car unless you just want the shell...you'll spend the rest of your life fighting electrical gremlins and mold.
