Any one else out there have a 350 with rippled and some what blistered OEM tint film that has removed the bad tint successful? My 2006 z has the widow deicer elements inside or possibly on the surface of the glass. Tint shop says they wont remove the bad tint in fear of hurting the elements that deices the glass. Any one here ever razor blade off the bad tint? Any one know if the element wires are inside the glass or on the interior side surface. I can't see out the bad tint at all thru the mirror or even when I do a head check, but I did install a back up cam. These cars are great and fun to drive but the viability factor is pretty bad as it is, the rear glass might as well be painted to mach the car.

The element wires are printed on the inside of the glass. The tint guys are right, it's virtually impossible to remove old tint without seriously damaging or destroying the grid. The only good option I know is to strip the old grid along with the tint and then replace it with an aftermarket grid kit like this one:

THANX! I figured the grid was a problem, I don't need the option to de ice and I'm pretty sure removing the tint and the grid will only result in a mess that new tint will never cover or stick well to. I just wonder if this tint problem is common or that before I bought this car it was parked in the hot tropical sun all those years.

Once the old tint is removed it's relatively easy to strip all the old adhesive with chemicals, so I wouldn't worry too much about re-tinting it provided you don't care about the grid.

Did research on the net concerning rear hatch tint removal, found some pretty ridicules methods used by tint shops like simply spraying the glass with ammonia and sticking a black trash bag to the glass and park it in the sun for 1/2 hour, peel film and adhesive off together. With 4 hands we could not beat gravity pulling the plastic away from glass and falling off TOTAL B S method unless you remove hatch and lay upside down and do this. Then I find the info from REAL tint shops, they use a steamer and heat and steam the film and simply pull the film off glue and away, zero defroster grid damage. The important part of film removal is getting the adhesive off with the film otherwise you'll spend a few days scrubbing and eventually wearing thru the grid. STEAMER!

It's ENGLISH. for questionable brain concerns myself (and others I'm sure) would be to pony up and pay for an MRI examination at the brain doctor's clinic of your choice. jus sayin, that's all. I see you are on here to sell cars, COOL!

Yeah, It's been awhile but after all the dipzh1t "professional" methods of removing tint and not finding a steamer I simply did it the old fashioned way. Throw down a blanket, get your spray bottle of WINDEX out soak the sheet outa the old tint, of course remove the 3 rd brake light housing, starting there simply pull the tint off and try to keep it in the largest sheets as possible (DAH) brake a utility knife blade down to just under the width of the heater grids, scrap the soaked adhesive off and begin wiping the widow with the Windex until it is free of glue residue, those electric grids are tougher than one would think and if you take it easy a blade will glide right over them without cutting thru. Polished it all up, start to finish probable a 3 hour job, have a lot of beer on hand to take your mind off that horrible back ach from leaning into the trunk area, End result, perfect clear glass, 100% better vis, and I hit the defrost button and every single grid got hot!! And the Z looks like a new car without that cheap jap tint they installed.
