I'll be looking to purchase a Z, in a year or so. Looking around the $12,000-15,000 budget. What are all of your opinions on whether I should look to purchase a 370z with a more mileage or an 350z with less mileage?

The difference is about 20 Zs.

But really, both engines are great. The 370z has the edge in power, but many have reported oil temp issues as the VVEL system is harsh on oil. Some VQ35 engines have had oil consumption problems. Pick your poison. You'd be happy with either, I suspect. I'd say go with whichever one is available and at the right price point for you.

Appreciate the response, and yeah I'd like to get a 2005 350z if I decide to go with the 350 instead of the 370z, as I've heard 2005 seemed to have less issues than other year models. (03-04 Transmission fixed in 05 and wasn't until 06 the Oil Issue came about, not 100% sure on that)

IIRC, the oil consumption issue was bigger on the "RevUp" engines.

With a budget of $12-15k I'd be looking more towards an end of cycle 2007 or 2008 350Z than an early model 370Z.

You get the best version of the VQ that ever went into a production 350Z, no oil consumption, no transmission issues, no window motors issues, and a far better interior than the preceeding 350s. Additionally, there's a lot to choose from. That's a good budget to get a decent Z33. You can avoid the RevUp VQ if you add the models from 2005 to the mix if you avoid the 35th Anniversary Edition and the Track Edition, but you'd miss out on the VQ35HR from the last two (full) production years of the 350Z.

Now go run a search on cars.com, or another similar site, for a 370Z with a budget of $15k. You don't have a lot of options, I imagine most are probably early models that have a pile of miles on them...and probably not a lot of TLC.

In the end it's your money to spend, I'm just letting you know what I'd be looking to buy if I were working within your budget...

...tires are also cheaper for the 350Z. Image

You're the man.

I like the updated interior, push to start, etc on the 370z however I think that's outweighed (for me) by having much less mileage and much more to choose from that my budget will allow, with a 350z... And if 2007-2008 models are gonna be my best bet at having no mechanical issues, then I'd much rather take that route.

I have 2 questions for you, if you don't mind answering:

1.) Any differences between the 2003-2006 Touring, and the 2007-2008 Touring 350z models?

2.) Whats the most you've been able to fit in the "trunk" of your 350z?

07-08 had the throwout bearing issue, those years uses a hydraulic throw out bearing and it's prone to failure, not a big deal if you have the skills to replace it yourself as the trans isn't too bad to remove, big problem if you don't possess the skills and tools to do the job yourself.

370Z looks better but your budget is on the very low end of what they go for. Still, an 09-11 model could be in reach.
