it has been awhile since i have looked into building the heads on this car/motor. does anyone know if anything has changed? does cost worth still offer those heads that are $4000? would it be better to have them built or buy ones alhaveready built? would you recommend building the bottom end while you have the top off?

*do not respond if your experience doesn't go this far, or you just don't know*^ to avoid the flamage

RyanWhats your ultimate goal with the car? What do you plan on doing? Are you going to run FI anytime soon or stay n/a?Its not a bad idea to build the bottom end while the tops off, I did it in my Evo with plans of running a bigger turbo. But if you're looking to run n/a I say don't build the bottom. Ya it'll be stronger if you do, but there won't be any gains from it.In building the head, are you looking to run 9k rpm or again are you lookin for modest gains. A good machine shop can build you a head and flow bench it to make sure everything is matched up evenly. I'd say it might be cheaper to have it built so long as you bought the parts.

Agreed. You have to establish what you want to do with the car.

For high rpm applications open your heads, otherwise it's money wasted for little gains per usage.

nope just seeing what would come out of an old topic. N/A would be the choice of built heads, for the money in parts and service a couple grand more would get me SC and a lot more power, but heads would be soooo sweet! Car already sounds nasty, cammed... sheesh. Who knows, I may keep the Z and still buy another car. we'll see what happens. every year bears a new idea....
