Well here we go. ASSUMING 350's (from what I read on the NICO 350 forum) use a r180 as well as a r200 housing.

HERE IS MY STORYI plan on swaping my KA from my 240 and dropping a 2jz. Instead of buying a rare (or atleast getting rare) r154 trans then buying a $300 bell housing to it can mate to a JZ block I would rather spend the big bucks and drop the V160 trans.

Problem is the Supras that run the V160s run a final drive of 3.13 (or something close to that) and my 240 has a 4.06 final. If I used the final from the 240sx it would render 1st gear useless. So with the 3.3 final from the 350 in the 240 would mean I could use the V160 trans.

Couldnt you just use the 350 O-ring and diff spline (not sure of its technical name) and put them on a S15 HLSD diff? Or does this set up mean the WHOLE 350 pumpkin?

A write up would be heaven sent.

PS I dont own a flame suit, but somthing tells me I might want to invest in one. I did search. Not extencivley but i did search simple terms on the technical forum not thing about swaping finals showed up.

This is a thread in the 240 general forum but no one had answers. I knew if any one could answer my Qs it would be the fine fokes of 240 Tech. Thanks in advance

alrite, so u wana use a a 350z rear diff to get a 3.3 final drive instead of the s13 diff 4.04 rite>? I dont know what the 340z`s ring gear and pinion size is, but it would have to be the same as a 240s to fit the hlsd from a s15, because, the hlsd fits in a 240 casing. IF it is, then yes the h15lsd would drop rite in and you could use the 3.3 final drive, however if the diff is different you cant... I think there probly different, but dont quote me on taht.

and i think i see somewhere online u can use the r33 diff, now the question is will the h15lsd fit an r200 housing, personally im not sure... are 240s r180 or r200? if tehre 200 yes, but ull proly need axles out of..... n/a r32?

S15 helical will fit but but there is no point as the ratio is no where near as tall as the 350, skyline diffs also fit but again of no use as again they are not tall enough, I find it hard to believe some one has not done this already ??

Well the differentials have nothing to do with the final drive. You could use a stock 240sx open diff as long as you have an o-ring with a 3.3 final. And once a o-ring with a 3.3 final is installed you would then need the spline to match the o-ring.

Yes the 240sx uses a R200The S15 uses an R200

Makes sence but, does any one know if the 350z O-ring could fit? Does the 350z use the same mounting points on its differental as the 240?

The S15 diff has the same mounting points for the stock 240 o-ring on the S15s HLSD. And if the 350z uses tje same houseing it cant be much bigger then the S14s stock diff or the S15s diff... right?

That doesnt make sence. The O-ring and spline make the final drive, not the LSD. But I do know that the 6-speed S15 has a 3.6 which I could swap on to the S15 Diff i allready have and then use the spline also, but it doesnt help me out. I need some thing as close to 3.13 as possible. So far the best I have heard of is a 3.3

Do I need to go and get an R200 O-ring and spline custom fabricated to pull this off?

it's not as tall as you want but could you get away with using a 3.7?

Just a thought...

Also it looks like the part numbers are different for the gearsets between the Z33 and Z32/S13/S14. No clue on the S15 diff however.

WTF is an o-ring?

u mean a ring gear?

also for some reason, this forum seems kind of ignorant in the fact of rear differentials.... a lot of folks act like you just put a different ring gear on and it fits back into the housing... I think this came up like 20,0000 time in the s15 HLSD threads....... but you also need the pinion gear and change that... they are a matched, gear intertwined setup......... just another thing to think about, a lot of folks around here think the pinion gear works with any ring gear.... they are paired up

Wonder if our wonderful sponsor Courtesy could hook you up on the gearset??

thats y i was talkign about carrier and casing sizes, cause if the 350z ring and pinion fit in a r200 case, then you can put the 350z ring gear in the h15 carier and use the 350z pinionin an r200 housing? maybe

Thanks for the research bro. But a 3.7 wont cut it tho.Greatly appriciated

Ok my bad. For some strange reason I had the impression that O-ring was the name for ring gears. I appologize, you win.

Well that is exactly my delema. I did not assume you could just put a 350z ring gear on a 240sx open/viscus diff.BUT I DID ASK
rcabrita wrote:Makes sence but, does any one know if the 350z "ring gear" could fit? Does the 350z use the same mounting points on its differental as the 240?
So I asked beacause I wasnt sure. Could you answer this question?
Fla240sx wrote:but you also need the pinion gear and change that... they are a matched, gear intertwined setup
DUH. But I do appologize for calling the pinion gear a "spline". From what I hear changing pinion gears is a PITA...In this case would I need to:1.) Replace just the Pinon gear and use the factory 240sx pinon shaft?2.) Change both Pinon gears and pinon shaft. If #2 is the way to go, then what would the process be. I dont know how to change pinons Any thoughts?

Sorry for the Nissan community's lack of knowlege. Maybe some one should post a link that explains the ins-and-outs of swaping diffs and ring gears/pinons.PS - Sounds like a personal problem...

That is freakin awesome dude. But it says "3.133 - 1997 - 2007 2wd Nissan Pathfinder - R200 (any trans)" Not:"3.133 - 2005-07 2WD Pathfinder - R200 (automatic transmission only)"Did the Pathfinder in those yrs only come in automagic?

1.)Why would it matter if it said automatic only any way?2.)I am only useing the ring gear and pinion gear?3.)Would I also have to use the pinon shaft together with the pinon gear?4.)Also its a R200 so it will fit in the housing, but would if only fit on a Pathfinder diff?

SIDENOTE: 5.) Does anyone know the diffrence between a R200 and R200V????

THANKS ALOT GUYS THIS IS SUPER HELPFULL.I might pass by a junk yard and try to walk out with a Pathfinder pumpkin assembly. I hope they dont charge by the pound ONCE AGAIN to the techies

Well I went to courtesyparts.com like yall said and went to the 05+ Pathfinder blah blahblahThis is what it came up with.

http://www.courtesyparts.com/betasite/k ... _6896_6912

Pathfinder (R51) 08/2004+ 4D V-6 4 0 liter |47/14=3 357 was its descrpition. I and guessing the "3 357" is a 3.357 final?

If so then http://www.vibratesoftware.com...inder is wrong.

ALSO would the (R51) that I see all over the page have any thing to do with its housing? Never heard of an R51 housing. Just want to make sure.

I noticed the ring gear has of the Patherfinders have a 9-bolt pattern and the S14 & S15 diffs use a 10-both pattern. I am gunna assume that I cant bolt the Pathfinder ring gear "SAFELY" to a S14/S15 diff...

**THANKS FOR THE POST GUYS KEEP UM COMMING!!**

you know u could just use the better acceleration and not need like a top speed of 299mph with 3.15 gears........... just my thoughts

would end all this confusion pretty damn quickly.....

FYI a change of 3.3 to 3.9 is not going to render 1st gear useless

change to 4.9 now that would be dramatic......... but I don't see it being that much of a problem

me... I would never lower my ratio, unless I was already starting at 4.9....

I like to get faster, not slower

let me put it this way, off the top of my head, thats only like a 10% change in gearing... 3.3 to 3.9

so your in each gear 10% less....... if before it took you 5 seconds to go through 1st gear, now it will only take 4.5 seconds

really not that big of a deal or even really noticeable... it will help you get moving tho

well this would make sence if i kept the same trans and engine...but i plan on useing a 6speed and an engine that will make 350whp when its installed. and 6speeds are geared diffently. and yes i would make first gear pretty much useless.

also the reason why i want to use the v160 getrag trans instead of the r154 is because the worlds fastest manual supra and other 1000whp+ supras drag race on these untouched trannys and many never see a problem.

so basicly my goal is 600whp or 10sec qtr street car and well useing a jz engine and getrag trans is a very reliable way of getting there.

first gears are almost the same

the Nissan is 3.321

the Getrag is 3.827

----------------------------

the nissan is 1.902

the Getrag is 2.306

-------------------------

its really the 3-4-5 closeness of gears on the Getrag that make it close ratio..... IMHO

like I say... your chasing something down making it difficult for yourself on something that is not going to matter at all..............

now if your after dropping RPM's at highway speeds, lower the diff number, but just to get more out of 1st gear... 1st gear is gonna be over so fast with that kind of power anyhow, especially if you spin em... in which case the HIGHER numerical numbered rear differential will help you get a further distance faster...........

Well the R154 trans is good for about 700whp. If I want 600whp or even if I would ever take it higher I don't want to worry about my trans blowing.

Even a use V160 with 100k miles could take 600whp with no worries. I want a fast and more importantly a reliable 240sx. I don't feel like twicking or rebuilding something every weekend.

DO IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME

put a LS1 into it with heads/cam/FASST intake manifold, huge throttle body/MAF/intake 4-1 headers no cats and Magnaflows or similar free flowing

theres your reliable power

a turbo swap engine..... less reliable.... to each his own tho

As much as I hate muscle, I would agree with the LS1 > Toyota torque

But I am much more comfortable with a cast iron inline-6 then an aluminum V-8. Plus a V-8 wasn't even an option when I wanted to start my project. It was either SR, RB, VQ, JZ or KA-T

But why must we question each others motives?

I see this a lot on NICO forums. I would understand if I asked for advice... But I would like to solve my little issue.

And how does useing a V-8 give me a reliable trans?

PREACH BROTHA Fla240sx!

I am not giving up!I will continue to purse this. I just wish I had the money & time to mess with diff/ring gear combinations.

Based on the responces I am going to guess that people usually don't mess with that stuff so I will just try to figure it out myself. Wish me luck

And if any one has a 240sx pumpkin they don't want (because I am still useing mine) let me know. Thanks for the responces guys!

I have an extra S14 R200 (open diff) and set of axles but I am quite a way from you.

If you want to handle shipping and some $ for the parts I can send them your way.

Send me an email if you're interested;

Am I getting any closer?

Any one have an extra Pinion shaft + pinon gear + ring gear from a manual 2003 - 2006 350Z layin around?

PS - I'm stubborn

haha its richabrita frm 2jzswap.com!!

anywhoo .. good luck getting that v160 in there. i've heard nothing other than no 1st gear which makes it a 5spd anyway . but hey if the 350z final drive works out for ya thats greatttttttt!!!!!!!

personally i think the R154 is up to the challenge and the v160 isnt worth it.... but hey a Getrag is a Getrag. anywhoo good luck on the swap and such.

havent tracked it yet... but im pretty sure the R154 is going to give some pretty solid results.

cheers to another 2jz swap in the tri-state
