Hey guys im still shopping for a 350z.. i am driving a honda civic right now and i know the engines are great i havent really had any problems with my car.

Around how many Miles on a nissan engine before they are starting to crap out? or how many miles on a 350z in general before they start to crap out?

is 60k miles alot for a 350z? since they are a sports car and im sure most people bag them..

Thanks

im thinking of going used now instead of a 2007 cause ill have enough left over for rims and body kit and other mods this way. but 60k miles alot? 70kmiles? whats the max you would buy.

There is a guy on the G35 forum who has a 04 (I think) G35 with over 120k miles and doesn't seem to have had any problems.

The VQ's seem pretty good.

VQs are rated good for 250k miles one of the reasons why it has been on Wards 10 Best Engines every year for the past 13 years.

However you are not guaranteed those miles, because it all depend on how you drive and take care of the engine.

yes as long as you take care of it... obviously once modified you drain the life of it.. boosting or supercharging will tear it up more, just have to watch to replace parts as needed ..

I have 134k miles on my VQ35DE and have done nothing but regular oil changes, a flush, a clean and replaced the spark plugs. Still runs like a top.

you know what i think its what you prefer. low miles or alittle over average. i bought my z when it had 63000 miles. some people beat the **** out of theres and some dont. mine only had one owner who didnt. but im sure you can tell when you test drive it. it now has 70000 miles on it. and still no engine knock you can barely tell its on. im sure you wont have a problem when you choose yours. the 350z motor is one of the best nissan motors. thats why they use them for so many of their other model cars.

Just like anything, if you take care of it , it will last you. Unless you have a factory recall part, etc.

the problem si that the VQ engine is reletively new, so there just aren't that many out there with high milage, I've had L6, VG30E, VG30DETT all see north of 200k so I'd anticipate the VQ is equally capable but it need some time to make it there, I've seen several Z's in the 120k mile range and the only blown engines I've seen are the result of boost or nitrous

It was the VQ30DE 1994 to 2001... so these models had that branch of engine:

1994–1998 Nissan Cefiro1995–1999 Nissan QX 1995–2001 Nissan Maxima 1996–2001 Infiniti I30 1999–2003 Nissan Bassara 1998–2003 Nissan Presage

There was also VQ30DET through these models:

1995–2004 Nissan Gloria1995–2004 Nissan Cedric 1997–1999 Nissan Leopard2001–present Nissan Cima

Nissan only offered the TT models to the Super GT race series

So ultimately the VQ has 14 or more variations, and been in production since 1994.

VQ35- Simply Amazing. Seen a bunch of maximas, altimas, pathfinders, etc. that have this motor with higher mileage(120+) - most all of them are still "tighter than a flying kite string" and run like a champ. No oil leaks n hardly any problems. I must say- with these motors changing the oil every 3750mi or less is most important. Its a simple thing that can cause probs w any motor and especially these. The intake timing solenoids will sludge if u dont. As for the Z's, hadnt seen many high milers. Know the person who owned the car before you or get maintenance service records. A quick glance through the oil cap may help too. And for cryin' out loud, "CHANGE UR OL!".

Nissan management told their engineers to make the engine go 200k miles. Its mostly about preventative maintenance and how you treat the motor. Frequent oil and filter changes along with the other fluids is the key to longevity in any motor.

My car has 107K on it. Still runs great. As long as you keep the maintenance up to date it should last easily over 200k.

it's like this, the VQ will last, they are great motors but if you end up with a bad one, $1500 will buy you another used one so what are you worried about?
