350z convertible top

I have been having this problem with my top for about a month on my 2005 350z. The top opens fine, but when I close the top it does not close all the way. The front portion closes, but after the convertible lid closes, the back portion will not close and lock. This is an intermittent problem and does not occur everytime I attempt to close the top. The other day it would not close and I had to drive home with the back portion open. At a stop light, I place the in neutral, put my foot on the brake and the back portion closed. When I am unable to close the back part of my top, I am also unable to open the top. The convertible hatch cover will raise and lower but the rear portion of the top will not move. Any ideas on why this is happening and why is it an intermittent problem.

TWO THINGS CONTROL THE opening function 1)bow motor 2)Elastic Straps
the elastic straps(2 of them) are the easiest to troubleshoot.while the "open switch is closed" have a helper gently push on the "Bow".if it closes then replace the straps.
