I am looking at a 350Z convertible. One of the things that I am concerned about is rollover protection. While I am 50 years old and a safe driver, I may let my 16 year old daughter drive it on occassions so I am concerned about protection in the unthinkable event of a rollover. I know it is unlikely on flat road but if she woudl to run off the road I would be concerned.

How well is a belted passenger protected in the event of a rollover?

Thanks

Robby

First off, welcome to NICO!

Along with some added structural integrity (which you can't see) if you look carefully behind the seats in the convertible you'll notice the two reinforced cowl areas to protect driver & passenger in the unlikely event of a rollover. Additionally, depending on what trim level the convertible is it may also be equipped with Nissan's VDC (Vehicle Dynamics Control) that will aid a driver in recovering from a severe oversteer/understeer situation.

That being said, I'd be more than a little hesitant handing the keys of a Z over to a 16 year old driver that wasn't completely comfortable and more than a little skilled behind the wheel.

Maybe it's time for some father - daughter autocross sessions. What a great way to spend the summer. I can't wait to see some pics.
