any ideas on what the f*ck to do with those 6 3.4" speakers behind the seats? i have componets ordered for the doors. could you put a mid-bass driver in those? someone mentioned co-axial, but i don't think you get enough of anything out of those, especially behind the seat. any advice would be helpful

The 6 3/4" aren't really necessary if you buy a nice set of components and an amp to properly drive them

I've had 5 cars so far, and not a single one of them has had anything but front components. My scion (I know I know) has a set of Diamond Audio D661s (6.5" mids with a silk-dome tweeter) components with an older Polk/MOMO c400.4 bridged to 2 channels (200wrms per speaker) in it right now, with a Diamond D6 10" sub powered by a Polk/MOMO c500.1.

Probably the best sounding system I've ever heard for under 2500 (retail price, including wiring, amplifiers, etc...). I paid about 1/5th of that since it's what I do for a living, but it still sounds phenomenal!

504. First of all Tuner summed it up, Polk Momo sounds great. Components are fine for the front. But if you decide on filling the 6 3/4 slots get the matching coaxles to your compoonents. the volume space in there is not enough to make a difference for mid bass it will added dimension of sound. Good luck, tell us how it goes. As far as amp for the JL's go with a JL amp rated for the 2 10's you purchaased. Nowadays research and development usually tie the engineering into mathing components for marketing purposes, so you buy there product for everything. I know plenty of people with JL audio amps and they swear buy them.

I'll probably end up doing some JL Audio 6.5" subs in the rear slots to act as mid-bass if that's any more info for you. I'm sold on Diamond components for the price though. DynAudio also makes bad *** components.

well i went with pioneer 9800bt head unit, 2 sets of the polk audio sr6500 seperates series. the set for the front had to be tweaked to get in the door spots and the one for the rear have a conversion to make them a bada** coaxial. the jl audio stealth box for the 350z fills out the set. 2 jl audio 250/1 for the seperates and 1 jl audio 500/1 for the box. the sound is sick.

Hmmm...why did you end up going with full range speakers for the rear? You really shouldn't need them at all.

Your sound stage, especially in a car this small, should be 100% in front of you. I would say, using the fader control on the head unit, fade the sound about 75-85% to the front, see how you like it Should sound 100x better with a good set of components.

I dont know how high into high fidelity you are but some of the coaxles have tweeter mids that you can rotate and the guys at my local radio shop said where the Nissan placed those rear slots are perfect for bouncing sound off of your glass in to the front of your seats. I have to agree, I love high end audio.

Dyan Audio make a great product, I had that and some Focal woofers in my Acura TL and man the sound was awesome, but when you buy high end speakers always overbuy wattage on your amp to get the most clarity from that high end speaker without robbing the amp of its lack of power.

YAY FOR AUDIOPHILES! lol Smoke, I could see us becoming friends in the future

I still don't know about having full-range behind me as far as staging/imaging goes...I'm kind of a purist: Good comps in the front, lots of power, a good clean sub in the back, lots of power, stage it and align it all correctly and call it a day. Oh, don't forget quality interconnects!

In any case, your equipment is only ever as good as your install. Make sure the shop that is installing anything in your car, whether it's your Z or your daily beater, knows wtf they're doing.

Come on Tuner you are my boy, you have to belive in surround sound. But not plowing you ears from the back just the subtlties of the music. I put a high end system at my house and I wanted the same sound in my Acura TL and I waited to buy the right stuff and I brought it to a place and the put the pink noise meter and db reader and we tuned my car to have the same effect my home did. Now what I will do in my Z I am not sure but I can tell you this if you are a audiophile, never buy cheap of anything, from the battery to the output..

Surround sound in cars...oh boy. Welcome to 1999 lol. The shop I work for decided to put "surround sound" in our show car (06 scion xB). All they did was throw a center channel 1-din speaker in with a Rockford 3sixty.2 processor lol. Sounds like *** when listening to anything other than a movie with Dolby Digital encoding.

Purists list of audio equipment:1: Component set, 2- or 3-way1: Amplifier with a power output of at least 115% of components' power rating1-2: Subwoofers with a good mechanical Q1: amplifier with power output of at least 150% subwoofer's RMS power ratingAlot: high quality oxygen free copper speaker wire2 pair 2-channel: High quality interconnects, double twisted pair preferred1: Source unit, high voltage pre-out, 24bit or 2x24bit DAC's

DONE. lol I love high-end audio. Been into it for about 5 years and I've been hooked since. I'm going to school for electrical engineering to get more into the design side eventually.

Good job tuner I can give you +1 for that. But I have been an audiophile for 19 years and have a full Carver system in my house, trust me had you heard my acura your view would have been totally different from what you say the guys at your shop did. No offense just telling you it has to be done correctly for it to sound right. I graduated in Computer Engineering then went back later and finished in web design. Stay in school EE will help you in design and understanding of the audiophile concept in more indepth manner. Anyone reading should follow those exact examples they are good.

My Acura TL had the following:

Alpine head Unit (Phantom Face)Alpine ProcessorDyna Audio Components fron and rear2 Focal 13" subs in trunk1 Alpine 500 watt for mids and highs1 Alpine 1000 watt for the subsAll high end connections

Tuner go to the movie theatre and sit right in the middle and listen to the movie, not watch it. Then you can see when you get in your car the dynamics that can be added in your car. You would be amazed at some of the music artist are recording nowadays add small sounds in their songs that you can only hear if you have true surround.

Bah, I'll stick to my purist views. I'm not big on the way surround sound sounds unless it's a movie. Guess we just have to agree to disagree

LOL I wasn't saying money was an issue...I've got almost $4k into my stereo right now. Err, well $4k retail value, I've got around $1200 into it.
