Hi my name is Debra Loveless, I am brand new here and in need of some dire help!!

I just purchased a really nice 1990 Q45 (116 k) from an albeit shady dealer. I am now awaiting my 3rd transmission. The first shop that put in a new transmission (not new could not afford infiniti, had to go with "reliable" used transmission co") :rolleyes I had the second replaced there as well after it blew a week later. now 3 weeks after the 2nd one, It blew like a big dog..shrapnel, loud huge bang, the works. I am sending it to a different shop that will cover the warranty, but I am still worried it wont be done correctly. I informed the first shop about the cooler and that I preferred synthetic oil. Neither was done. He said there were not upgrades to that year model that he could find. The work has not been started yet, but it will be soon, could some of you fantastic, knowing all about this issue (and I have indeed heard it is an issue) like to help me out as to what to "suggest" to this shop to do to get it done correctly? I really love my Q-ship, and want it to perform at its best. However I am not rolling in the mulah, so please take that in consideration as well! Thank-You so much, I also posted this question on another area of this forum, I appologize if that is uncalled for, I am just very frantic to get some info before they start the job! This is a great formum, I look forward to using it frequently!

Short story - get a factory remanufactured one from Joe at Infiniti of Scottsdale (see http://www.everythinginfiniti.com on the left column of sponsors).

Being from TX, I doubt anyone in the piney woods knows how to rebuild these correctly. Searching will answer many of your questions.

One thought, is if you haven't done the chain guides, you may want to budget your future expenses to see if keeping the car is feasible.

There are posts under my name in member rides of various cooler installations.

Thanks Brian!I see you are partial to AustinWe are thinking of moving back to Austin, (I miss the music and movie scene too much) can you reccomend a good shop "there" that could do the timing chain thing?

Then I saw "33rd" transmission in the title, I had to read this. Thank goodness it was just a typo...

Be prepared to sink a few grand into your Q this year and next year, but each year gets a little more affordable. And I cant stop grinning. :D

I saw that and was like WTF no way!

Hah hah.

Good luck getting it fixed and running right, its a shame all this had to happen. Usually Nissan/Infinitis are pretty reliable.

I love my Q-Ship. I will put up with the expenses, I do wish I had done my homework first, I would have found these forums and knew what to avoid and look for in purchasing my first Q-Ship. Yea you grin and laugh, me too, but I am sold on these cars, I guess I will just be feakin broke and driving on borrowed time till I get the guide fixed! I keep hearing in my head a phrase I saw here about the timing chain..."total engine Catastrophe"...... LOVELY:angryfire

Debra - Fortunately, you're not TOO far from the absolute Mecca of Q45 repair, T3 in Atlanta. They can take care of the chain guides for you.

We're glad you're here, be sure to post pics of the Q when you get a chance. Welcome to NICO!

Jesda is right. Usually one something goes wrong, everything tends to follow. Car is not unreliable, just needs to have old parts replaced. Unreliable is old jags.. no matter how many parts you replace the car still ends up in the shop every month..

Hang in there Debra.. It can be frustrating, but those with patience (ok, and disposable income) end up enjoying their Qs the most :)

While I really have no disposable income, to my chagrin, I can probally swing the "guide thingies: (yes I am a female) Ok without snorting in mirth, what else should I start budgeting for?

You all are the greatest...Anybody ever tell you that! Well you are..and thanks for the help. And my birthday is June 28 (exact same day as Rosemarys Baby..for real) and if anybody wants to donate the "guide thingy" expense...well you'd be greater than great! (I know...I will just sell my husbands truck, he wont mind)
