I dismantled one of my large collection of 320 doors (about 12!).
Noticed that amazingly the wing window rubber looked pretty good.
Never had removed one before so had at it.
A nuisance as the wing window pivot rivet has to be drilled out to release the window/frame
but I wanted to get the rubber out in one piece.
Now I know why there are no reproductions of this rubber.
It is very intricately designed with 2 different types of edges to hold it in the frame.
Very thick with many angles and special forming around the latch.
It is very hard to remove intact. It must be a bear to get it in.
But it is so thick you can manipulate it, even when the rubber is 50 years old.
I know reproductions of this piece have been attempted but have not been successful.
With the intricate shapes of this rubber, reproduction would be expensive and with
the parsimonious ( does that sound better than "cheap"?) reputation of 320
owners there is probably not a market for many.
But if any one wants to try to have reproductions made, this example may be good enough to copy,
and you can borrow this one for the attempt. It is for the right side door. I may have a good left side.
Here are some pictures of the rubber.
Ted.
