Hello All:

It's time to have my M35 30k mile service. The Infinity dealer charges $550.00 for the entire service. $622.00 if the oil change is due.

According to Infinityhelp.com the average 30k service is $290.00 Why the price difference? I was wondering since this is the only Infinity dealership in San Antonio, Tx?

My service tech gave me a detailed list of services provided under the 30k maint service

1. Coolant flush2. Transmission Flush3. rear Differential flush4. Rotation and rebalancing of tires5. Replace Wiper Blades6. Air Conditioning filter (including the cabin filter)7. Replaceing all belts8. Fuel conditioner (hhhmmm..suspect?)

I'd like to see what my fellow Infinity heads have experienced and prices they've paid. I want to continue to take the car to the dealer like the previous owner until the warranty is up. (12/2012)

I paid the close minus the tire rotating which saved me $70 off. I ended up adding Synthetic oil as it last 7.5K miles but the pricing was same as you have been quoted.

This was in Orlando, FL.

Honestly that is not bad considering what you get.

I know some dealers charge that much and do not change the differential fluid, or microfilter those are additional.

The problem here is that your dealer is suggesting that you follow the "premium" maintenance schedule (I wish this was a surprise!!!). I suggest that you read your service and maintenance guide...and then follow schedule 1 which will keep the car in great condition and fulfill any warranty requirements.

An infiniti is not a ferrari or porsche....Nissan builds their cars like tanks. I can't imagine actually needing to replace the transmission or differential fluid or all belts after only 30K miles. Coolant is probably a good idea as well as rotating and perhaps rebalancing the tires but frankly I would just let the OEM tires wear themselves out and use the money you saved to buy good tires. Wiper blades get changed when needed, not on a schedule. A/C filter...sure, why not. Fuel conditioner is specifically not recommended by Infiniti but dealers love the extra profit....don't waste your money.

The maintaince schedules are there for wear able items. The pollen filter is recommended at 1yr/15K intervals as they get pretty dirty since all the fresh air that passes through the air inlet on the heater box goes through it. As for balancing your tires, I personally do it at least the fronts at every oil change. I hate high speed vibrations.

There are some items on major services that the dealer recommends but the factory does not your best bet is to do your research.

ghstudio:

You are correct in your statement about Nissan build quality.

It's not the quality of the build, but the natural forces against them..ie belts. Living in hot arsed san Antonio can wreck havoc on rubber belts (hardenling like plastic over time).

As for the flushing of the fluids it's not a bad idea to do those also due to heat issues. Heat is not your friend on automobile external engine parts ie hoses, belts.

I'll do some research on the fuel conditioner. I already declined the oil change and tire rotation balancing cause Discount Tire does it for free!

Wiper blades would get changed due to the hardening of the rubber..they wear out quick.

Wouldn't you agree?

All belts at 30k ... no! Probably better to do them around 60k miles - as long as a check of the belts does not show any wear or fraying.

Transmission fluid ... most definitely yes! I strongly recommend doing the transmission fluid flush every 30k miles if you want longevity out of the Nissan/Infiniti transmissions!

Differential fluid change is easy enough and cheap enough that doing it at 30k miles will not hurt. Since the differential is not an environment where heating occurs (like the transmission or motor), this is less of a concern than those other fluids.

Doing the rotation (you can do this yourself - just get a torque wrench from Sears to set the lug nuts to the recommend value) makes the wear more even, and then the set can go longer. Since I way prefer to replace all four tires at the same time (not each axle separately) so that I can have a choice of different tires if I want, this is a better way to go.

Finally, I am a believer in re-balancing tires every 3k to 4k miles. It makes the car ride smoother, brake better without vibration (far more often the cause of braking vibration than "warped rotors), etc.

Free oil change from Discount Tire? How did you wangle that?

I would still get the OEM oil filter and copper crush washer from Nissan/Infiniti dealership (or in bulk from http://www.everythinginfiniti.com) though. That is what I do for the in-between (3750 mile) changes when I don't go to the dealer.
