And it's not like they don't know how to make a car turn. As much as I like/want to like Ford they just don't make much of anything I'd want to drive.MinisterofDOOM wrote:The live axle isn't even the Mustang's biggest problem. Ford NEEDS to tame the car's understeer. It's bad in the base model and actually WORSE in the hotter models. The bigger motors put more weight over the nose and aggravate the chassis' weakness. Even the more aggressive suspension setups of the GT and GT500 don't tame the car's desire to keep going straight all the time. More power is great, but now Ford needs to fix the car's handling, too.
Did you know that the '05 Mustang was originally intended to use the same platform that underpins my LS as well as the Jag S-type and even the new XF? Ford decided that would be too expensive and instead decided to design a new platform (which actually does have a few minor structural items in common with the DEW LS/T-bird/Jag platform) specifically for the Mustang. Whoops. The LS has been referred to as "one of the best handling sedans ever built in America." Imagine if the Mustang could make that claim (well, minus the sedan part). Makes you wonder how much Ford really saved by switching to the new platform. The Camaro's return might have gone a lot differently, too, if it had a euro-blooded competitor to fight rather than the Mustang that actually exists.Veriest1 wrote:And it's not like they don't know how to make a car turn.

It would have made more financial sense if Ford hadn't given up on plans for an extended lineup of D2C cars. Ford and Lincoln both showed D2C-based sedan concepts which never saw production.Veriest1 wrote:::sigh::
I remember all too clearly but I still find it hard to believe it was cheaper to design a whole new chassis instead of using an existing chassis. That just seems strange.

wise words have been spoken.RCA wrote:I to would rather go with the Camaro.
I drove one when they first came. It's very much a freeway cruiser, not particulaly sporty.Jesda wrote:Speaking of DEW98, I want to test drive a retro Thunderbird. Seems like it would be an excellent road trip car.
That's what she said.MellowS13 wrote:yes! I'll take mine in black!
Rousch offers a Stage 3 based on the new design, which I would consider. But it's double the price.breadbox wrote:Hasn't somebody done all the work for ford already?
Dear god. I hope they only spec synthetic fluids. If not, these engines aren't going to last much over 100k milesJesda wrote:10,000mi OCI
Yes, it's very likely synthetic but there's likely fine print. It'll probably say 10K/1 YR for for "regular" use, 5K/6months for "severe" use. As info, Toyota now has a 10K mile OCI for the 2010 Prius which uses a 0W-20 synthetic.PoorManQ45 wrote:

Or if they made the sump hold ~6 quarts with atleast a 1/2 quart filter.
Exactly, it sounds wonderful. The fine print is always a downer. Since severe use includes anyone that regularly makes short trips when the temperature stays below freezing, that 10K OCI loses much of its value for a lot of buyers. Would not surprise me to hear about sludge complaints from people that buy these extended OCI models.PoorManQ45 wrote:These extended oil change intervals with small sumps are scaring me.
If ford plays the regular/severe game, typically everyone falls under severe, but they'll market the regular use OCI.
