That year 5.0 engine was factory rated at 205hp (flywheel) your wheel horsepower figure will depend on the transmission you use, but 160-170 is a rough guesstimate ( and 250+ ft/lb of torque). Using the ford 9 inch is doable, but pretty much means completely fabricating a new rear suspension for the car. It is not really needed unless you plan on drag racing only (In which case a solid rear axle rocks) and have lots of money.

You can spruce up that 302. I have a 327 (.030 bored over) makes about 385hp with stock suspension. On slicks it runs 11.7's @ 114. The independant rear holds the road well and off the line. It is light enough you still get good miliage holding 60-65 round 3200rpm I get 15mpg.THe guy that I bought from origanally had a 406 on nitrous that was pulling 10.9's on stock everything. Stock axles still holding up. Even with 4 lug hubs. People don't give these car enough credit. I want to change out to a vlsd out of a Q45 for better highway gears as it is now my grocery getter.

http://c1.ac-images.myspacecdn...4.jpgThe rear just drops and keeps the tires planted. Very hard to wheelie with IRS.

silviav8forums has lots of info if you want to search/ask some questions without getting flamed. There is a guys making 500hp on stock rear. one guy tracks his with the LS2 was 2 sec faster than a Porche GT3. He just tuned it was a LS7 (Z06 engine $15000)

well...theres no replacment for displacment....302 is an awsome engine, but does weigh more than youre standard nissan 4 cylinder...now...with a robust bottom end and some 351 cleveland head(poor mans boss..) add a supercharger.....but that can get exspensive so mights as well build up your old motor cause youll get beeter gas mileage and install would be a breeze.

I don't know if it would get better mileage or not. The LS chevy powered 240's are getting 30 mpg. If you can keep your foot out of it. The swap can be done pretty cheap if you have a torch, welder, and a little know how. The general rule of thumb is think about all the stuff you have to buy. radiator, motor, trans, drive shaft, clutch, hoses to concect slave cylinder, exhaust, ect. then add half. THat is the way toys work.

I have to ask what your expectations are though. I imagine that if you had both a running 240 and a 5.0 swap, you could meet or exceed the performance gains of said swap by selling your 5.0 parts and adding a turbo to your ka engine. Check out the ka24det subforum and its stickys/faqs for more info.

He never said it was running and if you do the work your self it can be done for cheap. with the motor and trans already there. 200-300 for rad, 100-200 for shorty headers. Exhaust can cost as much as you want it to. 200-300 for the drive shaft, and then misc hoses and random crap. there are people that have had done this kind of swap for around 1000. it depends on how much you can do yourself.

a desent turbo cost that much.
