301 in 240sx

V8 240sx? Sure! If either the chassis OR the engine is non-Nissan (i.e. SR20 in an RX-7 or LS1 in a 240sx), we've done it.

Yeah I know it sounds like one of those ridiculous threads that won't happen etc. Well I wanted to go ka-t but this might be an option. My motor is just about done and we were already willing to dish out about 2grand between the ams rebuild and having it running. My question is I just need a ballpark idea of how much it would be to get a 301 in there and running. Just so you know I live in SC and we don't have to get our cars inspected so screw emissions and all that just need an idea before I completely eliminate this as an option or go for it. Thanks

Um, Motor mounts, Trans mount, beat the trans tunnel with a hammer to fit trans, and a custom driveshaft. Getting it started is up to you.

I'm sure you could find one pretty cheap down south. I met a guy once who was going to put a 301 or a 351 in a 240sx. Never saw it though.

My dad was saying theres a guy with a 301 small block in his camaro that he was getting rid of for a bigger engine and he'd be willing to sell it to us. Sorry haha didn't realize how brief I was by just putting 301.

Ummm what?

Ford 289, 302, 347, 351
GM 283, 305, 327, 350, 400
GM LS 292, 323, 346, 366, 378, 427

So yeah 301 I think not, its probably a turd 305 which I say dont waste your time. Mckinney does make mounts for the small block gen1, and 2 motors

I had a 1980 Pontiac Firebird with a 301 in it..its a big POS..trust me. Do a LT1 LS1 LS6,LS7..or even a old school 350 or 400 4bolt main. Stay clear of the 301..only engine Ive ever had to shoot 2 rods through the block at once lol.

Pontiac made their own small block which was a 301, but it was not a small block chevy and shouln't be in a camaro.

I'm probably wrong. My dad mentioned the idea to me briefly but I'll talk to him and the guy tonight.

The 305 is a pretty ugly motor, I have no data on the 301 Pontiac motor. However, if the motor landed in my lap with a tranny for a really good price...close to free...I'd install it in a 240. I'm just at that point in my life where I'm tired of having no instant torque. Yeah I can build a 400 whp KAT, but it isn't the same.

I had a 305 if my Monte for awhile before I upgraded to a 350, it wasn't awful and my Monte weighed 1000 lbs more then the 240 does. If you can keep the temps down on the 305/301 it will be a reliable and fairly torquey motor, probably pretty fun.

However, the motor would have to be really cheap. Otherwise the old 350 is the way to go.

A cheap easy option is the 5.7 tbi motor from the late 80's early 90's. Even with the nasty iron heads still on it made enough power to get my K5 sideways with just headers and some fuel pressure mods. Throw a little boost at it...easy cheap power ftw.

Any V8 swap is a good upgrade IMO.
