Like i stated in the VG forum, im looking to buy a 300zxtt. I hear very good things about these cars, but before i start my search i would like to do my necessary research. Are there any sticky tech guides i could run through? Mainly power adder tech guides, and maintenance guides. Are they reliable cars? What should i look out for when buying one?Hopefully all goes well and i'll be on this forum regularly....

I'm a fairly big Z guy. Between the members of my family we have 5 now, myself the owner of 2 of them a 94 Twin Turbo and a 92 Slicktop NA. I've had catastrophic failures of several systems but I will still stand behind the Z in that it's a reliable car if maintained properly. All my issues have been either on track or in some sort of performance events. These things happen in these situations, you just can't help it.

As far as buying a TT. There are comprehensive lists everywhere about "what to look for" when buying. I would suggest heading over to TwinTurbo.net and searching the FAQ, just about all your questions can be answered there.

As far as a standard upgrade path, well, that's covered over there to, but you'll find Z owners are addicted to "stage" charts and though I sort of hate them, they do offer a wise and standard path to upgrade your car.

Stage III or so is where most people stop. It includes, pop charger (cone air filter) ECU and Exhaust. With full exhaust you will net about 350 whp and maintain pretty much all reliability.

At this point, whatever car you buy, plan on doing the 120k service even if it isn't at 120k miles unless the previous owner has done it and has documentation (perhaps upgrading your Crank pully at the same time) on the car as pretty much anything you buy is going to need it. Realize that the car is between 11 and 17 years old now depending on the year you purchase, it IS going to require some maintenance and regular items may fail on you.

Feel free to ask any other questions here, the people around NICO are super friendly and helpful. Also, Welcome!
