300zx wont start

i just bought a 86 300zx 2x2 5 speed....... for 300 bucks........ it gets gas and spark it sort of starts but no more than 5or6 seconds...... just bought cap, rotor, fuel filter..... plug wires were on the car when i got it... the Z has plates till jan of 09 so the car hasent been down for that long..... what should my next step be to get this Z runningIMG]http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/gg30 ... hmmm. well sounds like a fuel issue, as if the pump is shutting off for some reason, I've seen pumps fail that would come on and prime the lines but once they build pressure they shut down, also the MAF is what tells the fuel pump to come on and stay on, measure voltage at the fp connector, while someone cranks it over and wait till ti does, if the voltage stays constant as it does it' most likely a bad pump, if the voltage fails then it does then it's most likely the MAF, could also still be the ecu but I've seen far more failed maf's than ecu's

The MAF is not what tells the pump to come on and stay on. You can unplug the MAF all together and the car should run but not rev past 2k rpm. Try that.

forgot the Z31 uses a MAS not a MAF, the S30 and S130 MAF won't allow the fuel pump to come on
