Last weekend, I pulled out the stock diff out of my 2002 Q45 to install a VLSD 300ZXTT. The input flanges and output flanges are the same. All in all, it does not fit. The F50 Q45 uses an R200, the 300ZXTT is an R230V.

1. The R230V housing is bigger and taller, thus it hits both the body sheetmetal and subframe beam.

2. The mounting ears are lower on the R230V.

3. The mounting ears are about 1/2" further forward.

4. the rear cover has 2 mounting studs on R230V whereas the R200 has one.

I know someone has done the conversion, so more info is appreciated.

And does anyone know if the factory VLSD are interchangeable from one housing to another?

You should try a Q45 (from the G50)....

Does the twin turbo Z have the 6 bolt flanges (6 evenly spaced?)

Yes it does. I lined up the diffs side by side and bolted the flanges together.

The input flange would have to be changed as the G50 seems to use the 4-bolt where as the 300ZXTT and the F50 use the 6bolt. The mounting ears are still low, will need spacers made.

Changing the companion flange will probably work, but the mounting ears are still different. The G50 R200 are lower where as the F50 R200 the ears are nearly flush with the top of the housing.

Oh ok... Well I wonder if you could just swap the gears from the Q45 (or twin turbo Z) into the F50 case....

Otherwise, get a really long bolt and a bunch of washers

have you looked at using a 97-01 Q45 rear diff, it has the same gears as a 300ttzx 3.69

A better idea for sure, if the F50 has the same 5 bolt flanges, as the chassis are very similar. Also, the gear reduction of the final drive would be a lot less.

All the R200's I have ever dealt with have either 4 small bolts (S13 and Cefiro) , or 2 large ones (S14, S15, Z32, Q45 etc)

The current R200 diff all use the single stud on the rear cover. Left pumpkin is from a G35 converted to open diff, center pumpkin is a stock 2002 Q45 and right is 2002 Q45 with an VLSD from an automatic G35. Second picture shows the output flange, tho part of it is cut off, all 3 pumpkins are 6 bolt. The Q45 and the 300ZX R230 use the same companion flange with 6 bolts. G35/350Z use a 4 bolt companion flange.

What about the later Q or the M45 and newer M45: 3.13, 3.313.

What every combo [3.313] the new M45 is using seems to do the job.

The 2003+ q45 and M45 pumking using the shorter 3.133 would accelerate quicker and also rev higher. Having a supercharged motor, I prefer to keep the revs lower as I mostly do freeway driving in my car. At the same time, none of the F50 or Y34 cars come with a factory limited slip differential. Nissan probably decided it was cheaper just to use electronics to prevent and eliminate wheelspin and loss of control, hence VDC and traction control.
