I have buddy that has a 300zx turbo I was thinking about using, it just the turbo, no wastegate, can I use the stock one from my rb20? If so is it a pain to make it work? Also heard that 300zx turbos are good up to about 17psi?

Any info would be greatthanks

Is it a Z31 or a Z32. The turbos are pretty small for the 32's I believe. Not sure on the 31's.

When you say wastegate... do you mean the metal cyl with a bar coming out of it? That is your actuator... and you might be able to use it if the bolt pattern on the two are the same... and you can adjust the length of the actuator enough to reach the flapper.

early z31 turbos are the largest of the Z's 88 is when the size of the turbo went down from the T3 size and went to a t28 and higher compression.

So the Z31, per say 86 models have the larger turbine unit.

As far as how much boost the turbo can run, its not 17.

Ok, I can give you the information about the turbo specifications for Z31's.

The 1984 turbo Z31's came with an oil lubricated T3. The 1985 to 1987 turbo Z31's came with an oil and water-cooled T3. The 1988 and 1989 Z31 Turbo's came with an oil and water-cooled T25.

The turbo's maximum efficient boost is between 14 and 16PSI for the T3's. The T25's I am not sure about. As far as the bolt-up capability of the Z31 T3 turbo's, I have not been able to get my hands on a Z31 T3 again (I was stupid and gave mine away) to try it out. If anybody knows for sure whether it's a bolt on for 20 or 25's, I would like to know. I would assume for sure the oil and water lines will need to be altered and possibly new ones made, and possibly the housing rotated, but I'm just guessing.

Anyway, hope that helps.
