Hey guys. Searched on this topic, but it's kind of hard as the circumstances surrounding the car would dictate the answer to the question.

I'm looking at a good friend of mines TT as my weekender, however in its current form there is NO CHANCE it will pass emissions in the state of Virginia. I recognize this, have no delusions. He had the car registered in Yuma, Arizona and during its stay in the desert, he had the motor rebuilt, and installed a 3" exhaust from the turbo back with a JWT ECU, with O2 sensor spacers/foolers. I'm scouring for a completely stock exhaust, but that seems to be difficult to find quickly (enough to get it registered fairly quickly upon purchase this weekend), and I'm concerned that won't do the trick anyway. Does anyone have a similar experience that they can share? Or have enough technical know-how to recognize what will allow the car to pass emissions? Apparently, I could claim that it is garaged in a county that doesn't require emissions, and just pay the property taxes on the vehicle and register it that way, but I would prefer not to for multiple reasons (one of which is obvious).

Thanks in advance gents.

Does Virginia have collector car insurance? We do in AZ, as long as your over 25, have a second car and a covered place for the car, you can do it that way. Collector car insurance here in AZ state you don't need emissions. Hagerty and Grundy I believe are the two that offer it. That is one thing to look into.
