I am in the process of removing my passenger side turbo, found a lot of oil in my intake and intercooler piping on the passenger side. it stopped about 2 inches from the filter. Also there was a sh*tload of oil coming from the passenger side exhaust. Im 99% sure its the turbo, but ill find out once i get it off and check inside the exhaust manifold ports. ALso I am removing the turbos with motor in the car. Impossible is an understatement but it has been done and I do not have the money for a engine hoist to lift the engine. To make a long story longer I am stuck at the 2 exhaust manifold nuts behind the turbo. anyone have any experience getting these off. Also when i was contemplating on blowing the car up i accidentally cut the clutch line to the passenger side bleeder. Do i need this line or can i just delete it. any help guys would be much appreciated. thanks

your best bet is to undo the downpipe bolt up to your test pipes, and then removed your head bolts and take the whole thing off with the turbo and exhaust manifolds still attached. Thats how ive done it. Youll also have to unbolt your oil line to the turbo.

remove PS pump, alternator, get all wiring out of the way, remove exhaust and PS downpipe. From there you will either have to buy some crows foot wrenches and flex joint or fab your own tools to get to the turbos because the FSM actually says that you have to remove the head to change the turbo so this is a "auto-enthusiasts do it better" procedure.

the thing is i dont have to take those out. There are not in my way. It is just those 2 nuts behind the turbo.

More space = easier access.

like I said you gotta fab you a wrench that will reach them, or if you are desperate cut a slit in the nut (be careful not to damage the threads on the stud) and chisel it off.

Hey guys well the nightmare is over. Got those 2 bolts off with a 1/4 drive universal and a short 14 mm in 10 min. I had a feeling that the 3/8 was not getting the clearance,so i bought the 1/4 drive uni and bang. Now to pull the manifold/turbo out and change em up.

Do you have oil in the turbine housing? if so and depending on the amount they are either bad or on their way out, also hows the shaft play?

The new turbo is used with very little shaft play. Im just curious if i should run oil through the line and spin the turbo and see if fluid comes out. Not sure if that is how i test it

problem is you wont be able to get the turbo to the heat and rpm without and extensive test setup so no there isnt really a way to test it in your garage, yes you can pour some oil in there, if it comes out the seals are completely f*** but they may be in ok (but sorta letting go condition and wouldnt show leaks till its on the car and running for a few days.
