My 1997 infiniti j30 has 180k miles on it. I really want to put in the nissan 300zxtt or just the non turbo engine in it. I heard it should be a direct drop. What else would I need and how much would this cost me?
thanks everybody

i believe the trannies line up differently or something. saw this thread a while back j30tt-progress-t215841.html

not sure about any money spent doing this, but yes, the engine is the same model, so that will drop in place, but i believe he had problems with the transmission and maybe even the ecu needed to be redone or something like that.

The OEM transmission will last about a week with the TT installed.
He went through 2 within weeks and if I recall he went with the 5 speed manual.
Dang that thing was QUICK !! :gapteeth:
The non turbo Z motor is what you already have under the hood.

yep, and i believe hes got his cardomain page setup saying hes selling the car too....

in the thread i posted above, somewhere on the first page someone said $5k would be optimistic to put into this. not sure if thats all he put in, im sure its quite a bit more since yodawill just said he went through 2 trannys... lol

Are you doing the swap yourself ??
And is the engine you have now have issues ??
I'm over 200K and the Engine is the LAST thing I worry about.
Bulletproof if maintained properly.

i bought the engine on jdm of miami they imported it from japan they told me that the engine had 45k miles and they say that everything was fine with it. i wanna swap it cuz mine has 187k and i wanna do some modifications on my car, put a good exhaust system and things like that and i don't know if that is good to do it in an car with that milleage. what do you think?

ive got over 210K on mine. had to change out the transmission a while back, but that was from revving the engine in neutral, then throwing it in drive a couple times... LOL as far as if its a good thing to do with a car with that mileage, depends on if theres anything else wrong with it. but this is the sort of thing that once you have the engine out, might as well take everything else out and clean up each part and replace each bad part along the way. as yodawill asked, will you be doing the swap yourself? or are you asking us about a price range on how much a shop would charge ya. best thing to do is go to a shop, ask the people how much they would charge, try and be friendly to see if they can cut ya a discount or anything. LOL

@yodawill, for some reason this thread makes me think of naladude911... but it might just be me....

could just call around to like 4-5 local shops, check craigslist in your area, might find someone on there that will trade something with ya for the work... plenty of ppl like that in the orlando craigslist. lol

I also had some work done on another car and found a guy who does this kind of stuff with his father in their garage and the prices were great so look around a little bit. 97 with 179,000 and counting and runs great. My one thing I would love to hear all comment on is I started using synthetic oil now in all the cars we drive including my lawn mower ;) and I think it is the only way to go with cars like this and that have some miles on them. Do not wait until the 3000 or 3 months. Try to change between 2000 to 2500 miles. Also, but have not tried this yet on the J30 but we have an older Jag and was told to put transmission fluid in the oil (yes high detergent transmission fluid) about 100 miles before I change the oil to really clean it out and have been doing it on the Jag with so far good results.

yea i see that in orlando craiglist alot(trading for services) since i live in orlando. I have done alot with my J30 from rebuilding the top end to taking out the whole power train. I do have all the tools. All it takes practice. If you want a shop to do it, it would probably cost 2k at least(I use to work at a shop before ii went to college full-time) cause first they got to do a swap, then do some modifications for the 5 speed to mount right, then wiring for the TT set up. So yea if you want, go for it!! :) pretty sick J30TT (or in mine case it would be J30tTT LOL since i got a touring edition. I was gonna do this swap too until i bought my 90 300zxTT for $450 (the reason it was so cheap was because the guy blew the motor and transmission crazy i know but he was leaving Florida to another state so he wanted it gone)

its gonna run you about $3k-$4k min for a shop to do it for you. im planning mine to be a little more than just a stock TT setup so my cost is not needed. youre gonna have to get the J30 ecu chipped with a tune for the setup. ive tried 300zx ecu's and they do not work well with the J30 setup with a manual. custom intake piping and exhaust will be needed and J30 oil pan will need to be midified for the drain ports off the turbos. the 300zx oil pan is much different because of the steering rack location difference between the 2 cars. i read the other write up thats been on here for a while and some things i would do different.

i did the tt swap into my M30. i had to use j30 mounts and there is some clearence issues around the turbo. i remember talking to 95-j30tt and he mentioned having some of the same problems fitting the steering linkage around the downpipe.
if your going to have a garage do this for you then the NA engine would be best choice. there is some custom fab work to be done with the tt install and a garage might charge an arm for that.

i also bought an engine ecu and trans from ebay, i forget the seller. they claimed less then 60k (i think) from japan and no problems withe the engine.... after looking at the codes, the engine came from europe. and after i got it started the head gasket would just puke oil, other then that the engine is ok. all im trying to say is dont beleive everything they tell you about that engine. if you want to do it right take some time before the swap and replace some gaskets on the engine, its alot easier to do whith the engine out of the car.
