So... tonight I went to a dealership to check out a 300zx. It was an automatic transmission and they were asking 8000 dollars for it. I wont settle for anything other than a manual and dont have that much money to spend, plus I would rather buy from a private owner, but atleast I got to check one out. My mom took me there and the guy told me to start it up... so I did. Then he said either he could take me for a test drive or i could let my mom drive with me being the passenger because I only have my permit. I go for my liscense August 25. Before we left he told my mom to drive the car around and then take it to the parking lot of the mall that was close by and let me drive it. He was a really nice guy. So anyway... once I got in i loved it. lol. I revved the stock exhaust.... actually didnt sound bad. Anyway... the parking lot was completely empty and it was huge. So i went to one edge of the parking lot and then turned around to face the other side and completely floored the car from a dead stop. Anyway, it was REALLY slow on the bottom end.... until I hit about 30 the car felt like it was going nowhere. It wasnt that slam your head back into the seat acceleration that I was expecting and the tires didnt chirp or anything. My mom's stock Mazda 626 felt like it had more power than the 300. I was pretty disappointed with the acceleration. Even though it is not a twin turbo, I still would have expected more considering it IS still a sports car.

Is this normal?

Oh and another thing... Both my mom and I noticed that the brakes were horrible... There was about 2 inches where the brakes didnt engage and they felt like the were to the floor and the car wasnt stopping... When I got in, after a minute, I caught on to the fact that they were just REALLY REALLY stiff and the car like slammed to a stop.

Is that normal? Maybe they were just bad or needed adjustment.

Anyway... Either way I still LOVED the car.

I would think id have a little more get up than that since even though not a TT, it still has 222 horsepower. Somethings wrong. And the brakes definitely need a go over, probably need new pads maybe bleed.

The brakes on the Z32 are good so they definitely needed some attention. As for the power, it was an Automatic NA but still should have had some pep. Maybe it was a little tired and in need of TLC.

Also, that 8K price tag for an auto NA makes me super happy though. High prices for base Z's only help boost the value of the clean TT's out there

Ali... As I said... It was an automatic and I wont settle for anything other than a manual and dont have that much money to spend. And I really want a Z so I dont think I am going to settle for a 240. Sure they are nice cars and I have thought about getting one as a last resort. Atleast its a Nissan. Ive wanted a 300zx since I was 12 and Im dead set on getting one. The only problem area is insurance. If i can get a quote that I can afford, then the ZX is mine. If not I will most likely get a 240.

Power throug it man, i bought mine with a blown motor (not knowing it was blown) This car had tons of things wrong with it when i got home and checked it out(too eager to get it home and did notinspect it at the dealer)i have spent 2000 dollars trying to get it to run normal plus the car was $3000 at the dealer ship. Trust me i pay 50 bucks for insurence wich is not bad. This car is definaly worth the time andd effort to find the one you want.; Keep looking

Well you gotta remeber the N/A is majority a touring car. I personally think it still holds up OK 17 years later.

Believe me, I am going to get a Z32. I was just out with my dad and got his stupid "get something that will suit your age better" BS. So I asked him what he meant by that, knowing exactly what he was going to say: Honda.

Im tired of hearing people saying get a Honda; Itll suit your age better.

Then he went and changed his mind and went into his defensive state where the only good cars are american cars. I hate that. Its people like that that make me HATE american made cars. He then claimed that Japanese cars arent reliable. So my response was atleast its a Nissan and not some stupid American POS. America had their time... that was back in the 60s and 70s and early 80s. Japanese cars are at the top now so get used to it. Japan is much more technologically (idk if i spelled that right) advanced and know what they are talking about.

People like him only make me want a 300zx more and are the reason that I WILL NOT SETTLE FOR ANYTHING ELSE.

Honda's are good. When they got a Greddy carb approved turbo kit and you only paid 1300 for it but the hunt for a 300 is on. BTW im Only 16 you waited to long to get ur license :p

Yea... Sure Hondas are reliable and when you can get a turbo EG for only 1300 dollars. But how often do you find a deal like that? Lol.

And I live in PA so you cant get your permit until you are 16 and have to wait the 6 months in order to get your junior liscense. Im not 17 yet, but I will be turning 17 August 15 and Im getting my liscense the 25th. I could have had it March 5 but my mom didnt want me to get it because I did horrible in school. LOL.

hater.

Z32's are sweet, but they are EXPENSIVE if you want to go fast. my buddy just put his up for sale on tt.net. he wants to go faster for cheaper, so he's going Z06. i suppose i cant blame him. the Z is a great car, and i would love to own one someday. but they really arent a cheap car to own.
