I entertained the idea for a while, because I had a whole (wrecked) z32 just sitting in the garage. After some research I found that there are a lot other easier and better swaps. http://www.japanmotorimport.com has twin turbo vg30's for $1350...and I dont understand why they are cheaper than everything except the CA18...

its all about supply and demand. sr20s are by far one of the most popular engine swaps out there, and vg30's are just not in that high of demand. ca18s are also cheap because they are not that common of a route to take.

Why would you buy a VG30 for $1350? You can go to a junkyard and get for about half!

I mean, whether japan or not, its basically the same engine. But You could drop in a SOHC VG30 from a z31. The mounts are the same as the RB20. It would be cheap, but its would make you soooo top heavy.

I wouldn't think the VG30 would be what your looking for. In terms of working on the car... it gets pretty tight in there against the inner fenders. I'd stick with the RB it looks so right in there .From what I hear the transmission on the RB is about the same weight as the motor(very beefy transmission) and since that much weight is in the center it doesnt throw off your weight distribution. I'm not sure about the VG30 but all that weight up front could cause understeer. What fun is all the power if you can't handle it??
