There are some nice premade boxes that fit in the corners of the rear trunk space. I made mine myself to fit in those corners. Mount the amp in that little center section between the strut towers.

look up on the kicker website what size box they require, then decide if you want a ported (has to be bigger) box or a sealed box (smaller). I have some pierce audio 12" WMD's and they are 2000watt subs and only require a 1 cubic foot sealed box but just over 2 cubic feet for a ported box. Your system will make you def if you get that setup esp. in a hatch the size of the 300zx's. Idont mean to ramble but in a closed trunk on my old accord with 2 12" WMD's and a rockford fosgate 750watt rms amp in a ported box (that was too small but all i could fit) it hit 145.1 dbs. Now days alittle bass is good alot gives me headaches

ya the two kicker L7's are incredibly loud especially in a hatch setting i will be running probably around 5000 watts of power through the car with two subs the space will be the worst issue the power kinda makes me nervous due to the fact my last system cracked my glass(not something i want to replace)

If you know what you are doing I don't mean to sound rude but 5k watts is a lot of power. Do you know the difference between manufactures MAX rating and the RMS rating? MAX happens in a lab at close to impossible conditions to replicate. RMS is the rating you should focus on as that's probably going to be what the amps will output in day to day conditions.

The L7's have a 1000watt RMS rating, so either you amp them seperately or find a good quality amp that can output 2k watts RMS. Also be careful of the OHMs, depends on what type of subs you have 2 OHM or 4 OHM subs. Adding 2(2 OHM) subs will net you 1 OHM. Adding 2(4 OHM) subs will net you 2 OHM. Some amps are not capable of providing 2OHM stable, and or 1OHM stable.

A sealed box will always need less volume than a ported box. IMHO a sealed box sounds much nicer for clear tight bass. All depends on what music you listen too and if you like the deep (I think overpowering) qualities of a ported box. Looks like the L7's can have a 1.5 cubic foot sealed box as the minimum reccomended.

If it doesn't add horsepower then I don't know much about it. but if you can fit 12" subs and amps and everything in the trunk of a z32 and will have room for stuff. I want to see pictures

ill post pics of it step by step, right now i ripped the whole interior out up to the tweed. i took my seats out for more room but you will see in the pics i post soon. robomatic12 thanks for the input its alot of help, i researched the RMS and peak before i started the process but you cleared up pretty much anything else i needed. the amp was tested to run 6500 watts stable at 1 ohm im not taking it past there, i knew the subs were not rated for this kind of power its just going to be a really loud system but when off i have the full "kicker" setup. As for the box i am making a custom box that will fill the entire back portion of the car pics will be posted soon

I used a 12" box for a full size truck under rear seat. Worked good. Only used 1 tho! with a 2400watt mono amp!

My setup is in here...excuse the s*** music that was the previous owner...he made this video and put it on craigslist before I bought it :D

amp mounted behind the passenger seat.

These are just 2 x 10" -- you will probably have zero luck finding any boxes pre-made like that to fit L7s. I suggest finding a custom audio shop who can fab up a box (or 2) for you that will still leave a little space in the back.

EDIT - just saw a Z on facebook...I'm gonna apologize for posting this ahead of time...but it has L7s mounted in the back. Doesn't look very practical though haha

I did something similar to that red car with 2 12inch type R's and 6X9's on either side as well.
Here are a couple pics of what i did.

Image
I cut a new piece for under the box as well out of 3/8 OSB to give a little more support than the stock trunk floor.
The center boxes are 5/8 inch MDF top and bottom with 3/4 inch MDF sides and center divider.
The 6X9 boxes are 1/2 inch MDF.

Image
The black piece is 1/4 inch plywood covered in vinyl. It is held down by the 6X9 covers.
The white piece is also 1/4 inch plywood covered in vinyl that just tucks under the weatherstripping all the way around the hatch. That way the white pice can be taken out in easily to get to a very limited amount of storage beside the boxes.
My amps are mounted behind my back seat just to keep them out of site.

hope this helps.

:bigthumb: very clean set up, did you use all 1/4 inch plywood even for he subwoofer box. how far up did you bring the box. is it close to the hatch.

The material specs are written between the two pics in my first post.
The sub box sits just over 1/4 inch below the plastic part that the hatch latch goes through.
I did that so that the black piece would be flush with the stock moulding so that the upper white piece would lay flat on it.
I have to close the hatch quite hard now cause of the layer of plywood and vinyl between the hatch lid and stock plastic moulding.
There is a fair amount of clearance between the subs and hatch.
I made sure to mounted the subs as far forward as i could in a square box without interfering with the ABS cover in the trunk area.

The only thing that sucks is that i crushed and broke the clips on the hatch cover because there is no longer a gap for them the first time i tried closing the hatch with the cover drawn.

(Sorry car was really dirty here)

I have a pair of kappa 10's firing at each other with a kappa one amp powering them. Enclosure was done by a local shop but looks great. Also matching kappa 6.5in components in front and rear powered by a kappa 4 amp. Sounds perfect and super clear.
