I've had various problems with this car. It runs perfect with the maf unhooked. While its running I'll plug it in and the car will shut off. With it plugged in I'll start the car and it immediately dies? I has no exhaust just before the cats back. Guy I bought it from cut it off. Please help

Chris

put a new MAF in and it still does the same thing, unless the one I got from autozone was also bad. But I tried 3 MAF's. The one on the car, one I bought in a junk yard for my 240 and one from a twin turbo, that I later found out that was the one that was on the car, because I bought it from the same guy. What if the guy I bought it from switched ecu's? Will a Twin turbo ecu work in a na? At least in limp mode? If anyone has any identification numbers that would help me figure out if the the ecu in my car goes to a TT? Also I noticed that some MAF's have four connector pins and some have 5. Why?? Sorry for the story, I've just been working on this car on and off for about six months and its driving me nuts

The car dieing when you plug the maf in is a very common sign of a maf failure, Seeing as you have tried multiple air flow meters I am inclined to think theres a problem with the wiring, Have you yet pulled codes on it?

even though the check engine light is not on I can still pull codes off of it. I think the manual says something about turning the computer into a diagnostic mode, but I'm not sure

Yes it could still have codes, oddly though with the maf unplugged that light should be on constant??

u might wanna try cleaning the connectors on the wire that goes connected tot he MAF. Zs need to all all electrical connections clean. U can buy some electrical cleaner at the auto part store. Hope this helps..
