So i bought this 300zx to fix it up. Cylinders #5 and #6 aren't working. I tested the injectors and #5 is fried, so im guessing that's the problem on that cylinder. #6 is a little trickier. ECU does not throw any codes. I pulled the spark plug out and it wasn't firing. So i changed it out with one of the working ones. Still no spark. I changed the coil pack and it still no spark. So im thinking corroded connection, cleaned the connector. No spark. PTU works, because i swapped them with a known working unit. Cleaned the connections. No spark. I took the cas connector, didnt see any corrosion there. So i took my multimeter, turned the key to on position and this is what i got:Cylinder #2 middle pinCylinder #2 left pinCylinder #2 right pinCylinder #4 middle pinCylinder #4 left pinCylinder #4 right pinCylinder #6 middle pinCylinder #6 left pinCylinder #6 right pin

What would cause such a behavior? Thanks

you might have to unwrap your wireharness, I believe all 3 share a power source, if you have good connection with your multimeter and no voltage ti might be corroded where the wires split

i had some time to look at it today. I took out the connector and noticed the middle pin was a different color than the others. It was gold, not silver. Other coilpack connector pins had the same color throughout, so i went over to my other Z to take a look. It had the same color pins on #6 as well. I also noticed 2 plugs mounted above #6 injector, one of which looked like it would fit the coilpack connector. I pulled it and what do you know, a gold pin in the middle So i went back to the project car, switched them around and volia! So now it's running on 5 cylinders, but its only a shot injector, so hopefully after that there's not gonna be any more surprises. Once i fix it, i'll wash it and post pictures of both my cars and to think i got the car for only 1500....

I have a similar problem. I don't understand how you were able to resolve it though. Some clarification would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Did you test for voltage like the OP did?

Make sure your O2 sensor connector isn't plugged into your #6 coil pack, they are the same connectors, and its an easy mistake to make because they are near each other. It will give similar readings to what you're seeing. Did this myself and was about to hack up my harness until our local Z shop guy mentioned it.

Wow... now that is a new one for me! Glad you figured it out.
