I just though I would let you guys know that I was able to install the rear 300zx ebrakes without splicing the e-brake cables. No where have I read that you could do this, but tada it is done.

There is plenty of info on the rear upgrade, so I won't bore you with that, but just thought I would let anyone wanted to do the conversion know that it is possible without splicing the lines.

The problem with the 300zx cables is that the outer sheathing is shorter than the 240sx cables. The inner cable will reach just fine, but instead of extending the outer sheathing to reach the stock mounting bracket holes, I just drilled new ones. The holes end up under the rear seat so they will not mess up your interior. Keep in mind that this was on a S13 hatch.

I want to also say that I did this just because I had the stuff laying around and so that I wouldn't have to get the rotors drilled, NOT because I though my car really needed upgraded rear brakes. I also upgraded the master cylinder at the same time.

Let me know if anyone has questions or concerns. If somebody want them I will try to take pics.

Yes with the calipers and 300zx ebrake (drum) assembly.

Good info. I'll most likely be keeping my rear z-brakes instead of selling them.. So in the future(probably in the summer) I'll ask you some questions..

As I was looking at the rear brakes when I first got them, I was wondering why people say it was difficult to implement it. It looked like things would bolt up just fine...

The only thing I had to have were rear conversion (stainless steel) fluid lines and to relocated the e-brake cable brackets. I was very pleased with the TAKA motorsports (also sold by Phase2motortrend) lines.

Are 300zx brake lines needed? Can you use the 240's lines?

I used the 300zx e-brake cables. They are different that the 240s. For brake fluid lines I used conversion lines. I think that you can use 300zx lines, but I know you cannot use the 240sx lines. The 300zx does not use the banjo lines like the 240 does. This is the same for front and rear.

I didn't really unhook the e-brake cables from the drum assembly. Keep in mind that unlike the 240 rear setup the 300 does not use the calipers for the e-brake, it has a brake "shoes" that expand inside the rotor hat. The 300 cables do not mount to a bracket on the wheels end, but actually are in a collet that is part of the dust shield and then the inner cable goes though to the mechanism.

Attached is a pic. You can see where the outer sheathing has been pulled out of the collet just a little.

I guess imagestation just sucks. Send me an email if you cannot see the pic and are interested in how the cable connects to the ebrake assembly.

Note that I also removed that short piece of hardline located on the caliper along with the bracket. I could not use it nor did I need to with my SS conversion lines.

I actually have that, but now i'm thinking that cutting the ebrake cable at the dust shield was not the best idea.

I don't think I would. I am pretty sure you will have to have the 300zx cables to make it work.

I will try to take some later. I am having problems with my knee and it makes it hard to get under the car to snap some shots. Do you need pics of how the cables attach or of the ebrake assembly?
