While on my way to do a waterpump, I found one of the 4 inch hoses from the silver coolant intake tube( what are they called, the 2 tubes in the front of the 300zx engine) was corroded and leaking....would this cause overheating? before I replace my waterpump? Can my waterpump be tested? If I just replace the hose, then I will have to put everything back together to find out....or do the waterpump while I'm in there?

Water bypass hoses. Import Parts Prosells silicone ones which you will never need to replace again. Yes, a leak there would cause overheating. IMHO, just replace the water pump. When's the last time it was done? If it was more than 40K miles, or you don't know when, just replace it; piece of mind.

If that hose is leaking, when was the timing belt changed? Normally, the water pump and those hoses are part of the 60k service. I would consider doing a 60k/120k update...

Agreed 100% And only use OEM parts, IMHO. For something as critical as the timing belt service, done as infrequently as it is, being cheap on parts doesn't get you anywhere.
