Post

I just purchased a 300zxtt on this forum two weeks ago. I checked all the fluids and set the boost low and took her for a little spin. Everything was fine until the next day when I took the z out on a longer trip. Not gonna lie, I gunned it a little but the boost was still set low and wasn't WOT. It cut off on me and ever since has ran differently.

However, I also noticed the oil pressure dropped. I was thinking it was just the oil pressure sender unit, because I let it sit a couple of days and started it up and the psi was back to normal. I then took her down the road and she drove just fine until I turned around to head back, which is when the psi dropped again. When this happens, I get rough idle and hard hesitation under acceleration. I took the front bumper off today so I could get it up on ramps to unclog the sender unit only to find this:

The previous owner told me, "I plumbed the recirc lines into one so it's running only one bov". Obviously by bov, he means a hole with duct tape around it. Needless to say I'm very upset and worried about any damage caused to my car.

Sorry for the long post, but I just want to be thorough and get a well-directed response as to what I should do. What damage might've been done and can I just slap a bov on the existing hole and be fine? Should I find stock recircs and put them in instead? To be honest, this is my first turbo-charged car and I dont know much about the forced induction side of it. All help is appreciated.

thats some ghetto fab right there!

I suspect he had a bov on there and that you blew it off, with the recirc hoses open you are loosing mass amounts of metered air and the car can not run right

step one, remove his ghetto fab hoses, and put stock recirc valves back in

thanks for all the quick responses. ztommyx, you have a pm. The oil cooler and cross member are like that because two owners before me jumped the curb. I have a replacement for both. I definately would've felt the bov come loose but I doubt there even was one when I received it. I just hope to god no damage was done to the engine...

So did rerunning that hose from the bov into the piping(I'm assuming that's what you Guys meant by records?) fix all the problems? Including overboosting?
