So has anyone tried to install 300ZX non turbo aftermarket headers on there J? I imagine it would be the same since they are both the same engine. Didn't know if the header designs were different. I am looking into this before I decide to get a APEXi WS2 Universal exhaust tip....

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. :dblthumb:

I don't recall anyone trying.

the non turbo headers should be a direct bolt on.

I know that the header should be a direct bolt onto the motor. But my main concern is that I will have clerance issues with the steering column as the TT do with their downpipes?

the headers are different. the 300zx NA headers point straight down while the J30 come out at an angle like the TT. i gave a set of J30 headers to Z1 and they were going to see what they could do to modify a set to fit on the 300zx NA and see if they could use TT exhaust piping.

If I'm not mistaken our VG30DEs came with different exhaust manifolds due to different clearance issues in each engine bay. If I'm right, I know because technically I have a J30 motor in my Z (absolutely no freaking idea why...). But who knows, maybe they'll fit. You'll be taking a risk though. And getting power out of an NA is somewhat silly anyway. TT FTW. Have any of you guys swapped a VG30DETT in there?

yep TT setup already in progress somewhat for me. VG30DETT motor swap, GT535 turbos, 615cc injectors, Z1 smic, selin dual maf translator, split 3" downpipes and custom 3" exhaust. with all of that i should be able to run about 500whp.

I already got my battery relocated to the trunk and am soon going to mount the hard pipes for the boost piping from engine bay to bumper for the smic. need to relocate the power steering reservoir, and fuel filter so they arent right next to the motor and then the windshield wiper fluid so it isnt in the way of the passenger side smic. then i need to get a 300zx TT oil pan and a J30 oil pan and modify the J30 oil pan since the steering rack location is different and i need the fittings for oil to come to and from the turbos. with the split downpipes, they are much smaller than the cast stock downpipes so the clearance issue with the steering rack should not exist.

ive already talked it over with the guys at Z1 and no im not gonna run the auto trans. already got the manual. just need to grind out part of the NA bell housing to fit the TT clutch and flywheel.

and yes for cost thats gonna run me about $6,000

as for the 300zx headers as i said before, they will probably fit but you will have to modify the rest of your exhaust as well.
