I've just recently bought a 1984 300ZX non turbo. This is my first import and I bought it "dead in the water" for a really nice price. It has no spark and I'm not familliar with their ignition systems. I have changed the distributor and the coil, still no spark. I've checked the ECU as batauto has directed and the red led blinks 4 times, then the green led blinks 4 times. It keeps cycling the same thing. I've bought a Haynes manual that I found to be disappointing as it does't show how to test parts or what their values are. Can anyone educate me?

possible distributor issue(still). you changed the whole dist not just cap and rotor? crank motor with dist cap off to make sure the rotor is actually spinning.

The whole distributor was replaced and the rtor does spin. Power to the coil yet it does not fire. I have a new distributor and coil pickup on the way. From what I can tell, it almost has to be one of those. Both coils I've tried tested out ok. When I get the parts and try them out, I'll let you guys know how it turned out. Until then, I thank you all for your help.

Howdy again, I just got back to working on the Z again. You were right. I had thought the rotor was turning, I was mistaken. I would guess the timing belt broke. It had quit on the gal in her driveway so at least it was at a low rpm (if it matters). Could you tell me if this is one of those motors that bend valves if this happens? Thanks again.

In case the valves are bent and no other damage occured, which distributor would you suggest for the parts. I am the most familiar with aquiring parts for hopping up American vehicles. Thanks

i would go with a nissan dealership. parts aint cheap but oem stuff is so much better. if you must cheap out you want to at least get the oe belt as the marks on it make it easy to line up. i would reccomend that you pick up a tensioner, cam and crank seals, water pump(with some permatex ultra grey rtv), and coolant.
